A lot of sound and fury on here, can we make it mean something?

I don't mind paying my fair share but the City needs to make a legitimate effort to collect upaid taxes. It is insulting that they are increasing taxes when there are hundreds of million is unpaid taxes out there.

The OP has a good plan and something needs to be done to convey the message to City Council and the mayor that the citizens that PAY are fed up.

Can we legally put our tax payments in a bank account in escrow instead of paying the City? There is a way for renters to do that when they have a dispute with their landlord. We all have a dispute with the City!

There is something a little perverse about not paying your property taxes to demand more rigorous collection of property taxes (like if you are demanding sherrif's sale in 24 months, you could not protest for longer than 24 months) but it would get their attention.

Who cares if it's perverse. It really does need to be at least this drastic in order to gain any traction and wake up the administration.

Well if they pass it, the new assessments are due in the fall but the new tax bills don't go out till February. I'm not sure how you best time the protest to influence the vote that is either late today or tommorow. But deliquency, I'm sure will still be an issue in Feb. 2013.

Demanding achievable delinquency rates as a condition for new assessments seems to the best place to push them on.
