What word is that? Why it's gentrification. All it is is a code word for rich white people.

Can't wait to see who feeds this troll.
You've been a member since 2009 and haven't learned anything yet? What a shame.

Then who is 'them' to Fishtowners? The gentrifiers have mixed up formerly all-white enclaves in Fishtown, causing friction while doing so. Go to Temple and observe the races of the students there. You're confused. BTW, an owner of this site is a non-white gentrifier.
So, instead of saying gentrification reduces crime, improves quality of life, and raises property values, you're suggesting we say rich white people reduce crime, improve quality of life, and raise property values?
Well as long as it's not white collar crime.

By the time Nutter and company get done screwing us over with sociopathic property tax increases, "gentrification" will be an obsolete term in Philly. "Reghettoization" will be the new term.
I'm confused as to who I should be feeling disdain and contempt for. Is this about the robots?
Looks like I could've lost $20
You guys might find yourselves more productive fighting winnable battles. The OP isn't about to allow herself to be educated. But if you think you can change her mind by telling her about all the honkey townies of Passyunk, Fishtown, Queen Village, Bella Vista, Fairmount, and Manayunk upset at newcomers moving into their neighborhoods with their suburban entitlements and disregard of cultural norms in tow, well...it's your Friday afternoon so have at it. I understand her frustrations but she has zero interest in knowing no poor or working class neighborhood is immune to gentrification.
Oldie but goodie.

I think you should look at the post history, because the OP isn't opposed to gentrification.
Now that all the egotistical Senior Members and their minions have calmed down from their tizzy fits maybe I can bump this question so that people who want to live in a world with descriptive parity for ALL people can make comments without feeling guilty. Let's hope.
It's kind of funny how quickly some people's blood starts to boil when they see a somewhat exotic first name and waspy last name, and words like "race" and "class" being used.
Exactly. Gentrification is a real term, not a code word, and it's got nothing to do with race or with classism.
It is actually a tad bit insulting when the exact people who are usually on the other end of racism and classism are claiming both.
You've never experienced real classism in your life. Plenty of white people have, but not you. Poor white people do though.
