SOPA and PIPA are really bad ideas, and will give the government unprecedented censorship powers, but signing petitions is

    WORTHLESS!

    snopes.com: Internet Petitions

They make you feel good, and some politicians will pretend to care, but that's about it.

If you want to stop this monster, actually sit down and write a letter to your representative and Senators and ask them to oppose this legislation, sign it (very important) and mail it via snail mail.

If you believe people should work till they die to pay for a government worker to retire at 50, you're a Democrat. Otherwise, you're a Republican. All other differences between the parties are trivial.

SOPA is dead, but PIPA, which is just as bad, is not dead. So don't get complacent. PIPA is the senate version of the bill, and as of right now there is no word as to whether or not it will get passed.

kinda funny: I'm trying to do something with google maps and it's not really working out. I consider that google is going dark in protest but quickly assume that if it's not working to protest SOPA there'd be some indication--a message or link to an informational or outrage page. Nope, it just looks broken. If you're gonna protest, at least enlighten.

And they'll be plenty signatures from IP Freely, Richard Head, and Mike Rotch.

ITs different, because its Google. And they can use it verses some online petition on some site that get less then the views that Google gets.

It just one of the things Google will use when they talk to their Lobby, not the ONLY thing.

Default More Evidence SOPA/PIPA Were Never Needed for Their Stated Purpose

Well, we all know about Megaupload, but here's another biggie:

U.S. shuts 16 sports piracy websites pre-Super Bowl - Yahoo! News

Three days before Super Bowl XLVI, U.S. prosecutors said they seized 16 websites that illegally streamed live sports and pay-per-view events over the Internet, and charged a Michigan man with running nine of those websites.
