Default The 2011 Philadelphia Fishing Thread - hoooook em' up boys and girls

Philadelphia has a surprisingly great fishing scene.

This is a thread for people to talk about anything fishing related. Secret spots, fishing clubs, what baits are hot, etc.

It will be a more productive season if we share information besides we also need a place to gloat when we land the monsters!

Here's to getting your line wet in Philadelphia.

    Good luck !

I started the same thread for 2010 but it never really took off. Let's try to keep this one alive.

I'm not familiar with either location. What type of stuff are you targeting there? Usual success rate?

My future BIL just got a kayak all tricked out for fishing and I have been considering it.

Opening day trout will be here any minute. I usually just go out for the fun of it the first couple of weeks on opening day and maybe at night during the week because it's to early for bass. Then the smallies start to heat up on the Big D. I've fished March Creek a few times for bass but never had much luck. Never heard of Chambers?

I have a SOT kayak so its a little cold for my butt for trout.

marsh creek is defiantly a "boaters lake" there are only so many places you can get to on foot. I've had better luck using more of a "hit and run" strategy there. I

The crowds at marsh creek have gotten too me its annoying to try and land your boat when there are 12 kids trying to build sand castles in the boat launch area. I've taken to blowing my whistle and coming in fast

Chambers way out near coatesville "Hibernia county park" its smaller around 100 acres but produces well

Both Chambers and Marsh Creek are "big bass lakes"

Marsh creek is above exton chambers lake above coatesville.

I've have better luck at Chambers but its more fun to yak at marsh creek

And Kayak fishing is the way to go. I never bank fish anymore. I can cover alot of shoreline in my kayak compared to sitting on the bank. Its a good cheap way to get on the water.

Of course its not so great in the cold or at least in my boat ... its a little wet.

    I run a 12' Scrambler XT angler

ETA2: a mid size bass i caught last summer... not sure why i dont have a picture of my set up

Does the Schuykill River have any fish in it above the dam area? I'm thinking about buying a small boat and hitting up the river. I'm talking like Gladwyne, Conshy area-probably launching from above Rox somewhere.

Yes I am excited to try out the new waders that my fiance got me for my birthday.

BTW....what do you guys prefer....felt-bottom waders or rubber molded bottoms?

I haven't gone fishing in years but I'm thinking about getting back into it. I was thinking about taking my dad charter fishing for Fathers Day. Anyone have recommendations?

If anyone here is a boater as well and needs a vessel safety check hit me up.

Don't fish in the anoxic spots of the river either, haha.

Flathead fishing has become popular in the Schuykill. I'm pretty sure as far up as the areas you mentioned.

I took my motorcycle out for a ride down Kelly Drive and stopped by the Art Museum to check out the status of the river yesterday. I ran into one of my old fishing buddies and asked him how the fishing has been.

Here's the fishing report from the Art Museum area:

They are catching Walleye's at night.
During the day they are catchig shad and catties. I saw a 7 lb catfish that a guy caught when I was there. It was a hog!

I'm think about heading down there after work to try out my luck!

Cool, I didn't know there were Walleye there. Do you know what kind of cat's? Them flatheads can get huge.

The striper will start running in the Delaware soon if they have not already. Ever do that?

Ever do that?????? Striper fishing on the Delaware is one of my favorite things to do. I caught some monsters last year within blocks of PR/Fishtown area.
