    Starr's beer garden has a name | Philadelphia Inquirer | 04/22/2011

Stephen Starr is targeting May 11 for the opening of his beer garden on Frankford Avenue just off Girard Avenue in Fishtown. The property, at 1208-14 Frankford Ave., is cloaked in anonymity.

I can tell you that he's calling it Frankford Hall, and he grabbed the .com domain earlier this week.

I can't believe they actually chose a halfway decent name. These bastards are really moving on the construction so we should be drinking by July! Woo hoo!!!

Stephen Starr is talking about a May 13 debut for Frankford Hall, his beer garden at 1208 Frankford Ave. in Fishtown. This will be a casual spot set up in a former commercial building whose interior brick walls were simply punched out to make doorways.

A courtyard will provide the outdoor seating; it's separated from the indoor seating by large garage doors. The simple menu will feature walk-up counters and young women selling food and beer tickets.

Food and beer tickets? WTF? I guess then you take your ticket over to acropolis diner to cash them in for a smorgasbord of grilled cheese and daily soup delights?

I can't believe no one questioned why it isn't in Frankford.

I mean it reeks of someone who just names it after the Ave.

Like "Germantown Hall" and have it in/at Temple.

I'm just happy he didn't call it the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden.

I'm just happy that he didn't go with an overused cliché theme like a beer garden in this latest endeavor. Oh wait.... nevermind.

However I do like drinking beer outside and I haven't been to Fishtown since around 1992. Back then artists and angry old white people lived there...I wonder what it's like today?

Yeah, I walk by and it looks great. They said before this place is going to be seasonal, but the building itself is huge and could surely be year round. Did I misread something before?

The article said something like 60 indoor and 240 outdoor seats so it'll probably lean heavily toward the summer, but be functioning in the winter.

Service wise, he is modeling it after Zeppelin hall in Jersey city... same thing with ordering from a counter like you are at the pool or something. I understand why one would do this with a seasonal place and keep your overhead as low as possible and limit the amount of unemployment you hawould have to pay during the winter months, but at Zeppelin Hall it was very awkward, but that place is printing money so what do I know... for the record we gladly accept the competition...
