Default Suggestions for Thanksgiving catering...last minute, I know

Okay so we have a few of us in town who're not going home or anywhere else for this Thanksgiving, so we decided to meet up and have our own little Thanksgiving. Some are bringing a few things over and I will make a side or two as well, but I don't think anybody is going to make the main course...

so I'm thinking of catering for about 6 to 7 people. Any suggestions at this late hour for a good place that will take orders for carry out (isn't that what it boils down to, essentially?) for your usual Thanksgiving meal items?

I'm also looking for a dessert place that's not already sold out or preoccupied with filling orders. Italian cookies and such but also a nice pecan and/or pumpkin pie? Any other ideas/suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

Aw, aggie I would have invited you to our Thanksgiving if that was the case. What you SHOULD do is each bring something that your family used to make, even if it's not Thanksgiving!

I don't know if it's too late or not, but you might want to check Percy Street BBQ - I know they had smoked turkeys or turkey plus the rest of the fixins, as well as pecan pies. I'm picking up my haul tomorrow. Good luck.

Yup--Percy St.; Chick's; and probably some other restaurants.

Dayman, thanks for the thought! I in fact have standing invitations from at least two of my friends to come and have Thanksgiving with their family (one right here in town, another is willing to drive me up to Westchester, NY and then go to NYC for the Macy's Parade and also hiking...) but I thought I could perhaps just do an "orphan's Thanksgiving" instead. And I think it'll be fun.

Susan, thanks for that idea. I will definitely check into that suggestion this evening.

Maggiano's carryout should be able to set you up, if the others mentioned happen to fall through. They do Thanksgiving fixings this time of year.

I walked by Isgro's and they have plenty of cookies. Not sure about cakes or pies.

My family, like I believe almost every immigrant family, tries to live up the local traditions.

So for Thanksgiving, my sister and mom never cooked Indian foods, but usually anything else... sometimes even lasagna (don't ask me how veggie lasagna is related to Thanksgiving! lol but I have heard that to be the case in other Indian families too...a HufPo article about it last year by an Indian-American author mentioned that fact about her family "traditoinal" Thanksgiving!). I could easily cook up cranberry sauce, and probably whip up some mashed potatoes. But for everything else, my friends would have to do it.

ha! that's what one of my friend's wives suggested we do!

good that it's got another vote.

and yes, I was thinking of stopping by Isgro's for some yummy cookies...I'm guessing that's more Italian but my friends are a mix of Penn Dutch, Indian, Filipino... so they don't care so much about the most traditional of thanksgivings...so long as there is turkey, i think they should be good! and i'm not even going to be eating it... but i do love desserts of all sorts this time of year, so the Isgro's trip may be more for my own sake!

I was also thinking of getting a carrot-walnut cake from Brown Betty's-- they make the full size versions for the holidays, and in all their varieties although I'm not sure they have a pumpkin specialty... they do have a sweet potato cupcake however.
