Default Looking for good Chinese food in the city...

Does anyone have any recommendations for good Chinese food take-out/restaurants throughout the city?

I am in the Art Museum area and not too fond of the ones by me.

My favorite in the city would definitely be Han Dynasty on Chestnut between Front & 2nd. This is Szechuan and NOT typical Chinese-American - go in and ask for a pu-pu platter, and Han will probably slap you upside your head. They do dine-in or take-out. Han Dynasty -

If your looking for something local to the Art Museum area that also does delivery, one of the better ones is probably Long's Gourmet, over near Whole Foods. This is more along the lines of Chinese-American, but better than what you commonly find. Less reliance on MSG and gloppy sauces, better ingredients than you usually find. If you haven't already, give them a shot. Long's Gourmet Chinese - Philadelphia Restaurant - MenuPages Chinese Restaurant Search

Han Dynasty is the best if you want authentic Chinese food but be prepared to pay for it. Or you could just go to Sang Kee on 9th like most people do.

In center city, I like Square on Square at 19th and Chestnut and they deliver.

At guzzijason - I've been hearing Han Dynasty a lot, so will have to try. Been to Long's and I wasn't impressed. I read not so good reviews before I ordered about food being bland and I have to agree with them. Thanks for the recommendation though.

Mtemple - I was recommended Sankee by others as well along with Lee How Fook

Newmarlig - Someone also recommended Square to me.

Looks like the same places keep coming up so I have some ordering to do

Asked a friend with deep ties to Chinatown about this about a year ago-
    suggestions for Chinatown were:
    Ocean City and
    Ocean Harbor.

    Both seemed excellent to me-
Both got a "very good" from my wife, who grew up with homemade chinese cooking.

I agree on Long's -- the food is very healthy, but bland.

I haven't found a great go-to Chinese place in the "Art Museum" neighborhood, but here are my thoughts on a few random neighborhood options:

    * Golden Chopstick @ 18th and Spring Garden -- way too much salt and/or MSG
    * Long River @ 15th and Spring Garden -- not the best quality, but inexpensive
    * City Garden @ 18th and JFK -- nothing special, chicken was a bit rubbery
    * Asia on the Parkway @ 17th and BFP -- hesitant to chose this as my favorite, since I tend to get the Asian fusion dishes. Definitely the most overpriced.

I used to order from Rich City at 5th and South and they definitely were my favorite. I'm a bit out of their delivery area now though.

New Heaven @ 11th and Walnut. It's traditional Chinese-American, but I recommend it highly.

I like Han Dynasty and Joy Tsin Lau. Ocean Harbor? If you want to be treated like crap, that's the place. I went there twice. Both times the wait staff basically ignored us until we made some noise. I had to get my own pitcher of water after asking for a refill three times. I left no tip and the waitress came running out after me. Eff that place.

It is obviously not the best in the city but if you are looking for good Chinese delivery try Jojo’s on 20th and Chestnut. We’ve been ordering from there for 10 years and have never been disappointed. There are definitely better places in the city to get Chinese but Jojo's delivers to the Art Museum whereas the others do not. The deliver service has always been quick and reliable. Typical Chinese American joint with 4 out of 5 star food. Nothing in the Spring Garden/Fairmount area comes close. IMO

I always liked Jo-Jo's and Square on Square.

I'd call to check if they are open before taking the time to make your decisions. Maybe things have changed, but I remember them not always being open during their stated hours.

I like Long River in Spring Garden. I don't eat Chinese food often, much preferring Indian instead when I have the urge for delivery, but I called this place a few years ago when I was craving Chinese food after reading a bunch of positive reviews on Menupages. It's definitely good Chinese food. The meat seems to be of a higher quality than other take out places and the food is always tasty. I'd try Jo Jo, but I doubt it delivers to NoLibs. Long River most certainly delivers to NoLibs.

Based on this recommendation, I called in an order for lunch... and wound up discussing with the owner why it was her last day in business.

Not a traditional chinese restaurant, but I don't see Dim Sum Garden mentioned on here. Hole in the wall behind Wawa at 11th & Arch, but they make their own noodles. I highly recommend the Pork juicy buns and the Shumai.

Han Dynasty is very good, and have been to Sang Kee once and didn't like it (had the duck - felt it was too bland for me).
