Default Food recommend near Tower Theatre?

Looking for a place to eat on a Thursday night prior to going to the Tower Theatre on 69th Street in Upper Darby. A BYOB would be nice, as would Italian, but neither is essential. It needs to be walking distance as we will not have a car. Thanks in advance.

There's actually a divey little place right across Ludlow St. from the theater. Forget what it's called but it is super old-school with ancient, friendly waitresses, tons of tvs and really good bar food. Be warned however that as it lies in Delaware County smoking is permitted.

This Korean place on Garret road. Don't even know the name, menu has barely coherent english on it. Run by two nice old folks, the food was great. I also will third the recommendation for Don Memo's.

There's a dumpling joint around the corner from H-mart that rivals the best in Chinatown. Chat up the owner and order something off-menu. It's killer.

I was going to recommend Korean. There's one up the road a ways (across from PICA's), but this one's good too.

I believe the one you're talking about does more of a Korean BBQ thing. The mom & pop is more noodle and rice bowl centered, like bul-go-gi et al. Both are supposed to be good, although I haven't been to the BBQ, yet.

The Korean in the food court @ the H-mart is really good and fairly cheap.

Didn't even know they had a food court in there. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the thread, I was going to ask the same.

Now, this might sound dumb to ask, but we've never been to Upper Darby, and that area isn't exactly showing up in the local news because of its "friendliness".

Is it safe to walk around (from Don Memo to the theater) at 8 pm?

As much as I think Chitwood is a good Chief of the PD, his constant attention whoring has made Upper Darby sound worse than it really is. It does have its problems, but really isn't much worse than most areas.

Yes. Quite. As with any area, pay attention to your surroundings and you should be okay.

My buddy's parents live not too far from 69th street...his pop (italian) gripes all the time about the area going down the tubes because there are indian families moving on their block...

not that its exactly a golden age for 69th street, but sometimes people just like harping on places that are different than how they remember them in their fuzzy childhood recollections.
