Default Semi Private Happy Hour recommendations

I've been asked to scout the Philly area for a venue to hold a meet and greet for my fraternity alumni. We're looking for a semi-private area so we can do some announcements and not bother other patrons. Cash bar and individuals can order from a menu. Date: 8/21 5-8pm. Any ideas? Old City, Downtown, and University City are our starting points. Thanks!

    All 3 in Old City:

I've had great events like this at the Irish Pol (more on the drinking side, not so much food, they let us bring in our own). They have a great upstairs area that is completely private.

Also look at Spasso Italian Grill - they have a side room and a back room and I've done showers, graduation parties, retirement parties, Christmas parties, there. Fabulous food and they'll work with you on price points or let you order from the regular menu. Better for a more dinner-oriented event.

Last is Triumph Brewing Co. Had my hubby's 30th birthday there a while back, and have also done charity events and happy hours there. They have a variety of spaces to accommodate parties of various sizes. The most recent one I did was for a charity and they gave us a drink special, a few trays of apps, and donated a dollar of all drinks back to the cause. We used the whole upstairs and it was great.

As far as Center City goes -- The Public House has a back room that is semi-private from the rest of the bar. There are sections of Tir Na Nog that work well for sectioning off. Upstairs at Con Murphy's as well.

I second the rec for Con Murphy's. Have been to many happy hours there, and often there are large corporate groups upstairs. Heck, my office has taken up that space several times and it works.

Public House is a huge space so that might work as well.

Out in Univ City, I would say give a call to the City Tap House and see whether they can accomodate your group-- they have a large and swankly looking space and a cool outdoor patio space....perhaps your group can take that outdoor patio, and it overlooks the city nicely since it's on second floor.

Also in Center City, try Ladder 15 between 15th/16th on Sansom, next to Nodding Heads. Ladder 15 has a nice big upstairs space that your group can reserve.

Hopefully at least one of these spaces serves your needs. Good luck.

I second the Irish Pol. The upstairs is great, has its own bar and bathroom. Friendly bartenders great beer selection and they are really flexible about stuff. We had an event there and it worked out perfectly.

I would recommend the Irish Pub at 20th and Walnut. I've thrown great events there and the upstairs is perfect for a private happy hour with a good selection of bar food.

...as long as you keep an eye on the amount of change you get back from the bartenders there.

I threw a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend in the back room at Perch Pub upstairs at Broad and Locust - they did a nice job with the service and were very accommodating.

I threw a party at Aqua on 7th and Chestnut last year. It was still BYOB at the time (think they have their license now). They have a totally private room upstairs. The food was great - I think they are actually one of the better Thai places in Philly (even though you never hear about them). Also the staff couldn't have been any more accommodating.
