Never or they won't reopen for long would be a good bet, considering the reviews on Yelp. I don't put much weight on Yelp reviews generally, but the sheer number and consistency of negative reviews is hard to ignore, mostly regarding their exhorbitant prices and unfriendly counter staff. Plus I'm put off by the lying sign they put up after the fire, something like "temporarily closed due to mechanical malfunction." And no raisin bagel on their menu means I have no reason to try them even once.

I didn't care for it at the prices they charged but I can't imagine they'll never reopen. They put tons of money into that place and they were only open a week before the fire. They did a great job with PR so they'll have plenty of opportunity to redeem themselves when they reopen.
what about some Canadian (Montreal?) style bagel place? I think one was going to open in Rittenhouse Sq area...

That is what the OP is asking about. It opened a while back, had a fire the first week and has been closed since.
ah, okay. Thanks for setting me straight.

I lived in Montreal for a couple of years and was really excited to hear about Spread opening. I waited and waited and waited for what seemed to be forever for Spread to finally open and went into sticker shock when i heard what they were charging for a dozen bagels. I was crushed. I figured out it would be cheaper to have them shipped from Montreal even with the $35 shipping fee. Maybe it was karma that hey didn't last a week. Judging from how long it took them to open in the first place it may be another few years before they reopen. The mechanical malfunction wasn't the fire, it was the management and price structure.
Michale Klein tweeted today that they are lowering prices when they reopen.
I hope they make their bagels taste better too.
They are now open with new menu, pricing, staff, and a well functioning exhaust system.
this place is awesome!!!! Go!
