Default Foodery III

Quote:
I’ve confirmed a tip that the Foodery, the city’s superb takeout beer store, is scouting around for a third location. (It already runs shops at 10th and Pine, Center City; and 2nd & Poplar, Northern Liberties.)

Company reps have eyeballed properties in Manayunk and Chestnut Hill, and most recently spoke with development officials in Roxborough. It has no solid plans, yet.

Heading up to the northest section of the city should be a no-brainer. It’s basically middle-class with a growing young population, and it’s almost completely beer-deprived when it comes to takeout beer. The Trolley Car in Mt. Airy has an OK selection in a pinch, but there’s absolutely nothing that’s even half as varied as the Foodery till you get out to Capone’s in Norristown

East Passyunk Ave.

There are a couple of locations that might work.

I think that the demographic in the area would support a Foodery location pretty well.

Yeah, nothing quite like a 40 dollar sixpack...

Overpriced, but great.

If I had the money I would straight up rip-off what they are doing and open one on East Passyunk, it would make a killing.

what they're doing isn't exactly patented. to tell you the truth, I doubt it's going to be better than Bella Vista's six pack shop on 11th st or even BREW by the SPTR guy. they were the first (in philly) but more importantly, were hip (unlike Latimer). I suppose BREW and Bella Vista Six pack shop will both be a good ways from east the northern end of east passyunk (obviously if you're near Le Virtu you will be pretty close to BREW).

Yeah, but BREW is on the wrong side of the tracks. Lots of people are hesitant to go to that location.

15t and mifflin ain't that bad. do they think they'll get shot walking across broad? sounds like sour grapes.

From a local bean aficionado and South Philadelphia Tap Room's owner, Brew/Ultimo's an airy, garage door'd storefront with a church pew'd sustainable coffee & espresso bar up front and, in back, refrigerated cases that'll be stocked with 500+ rare beers as soon as the booze license comes in (soon, but not soon enough).
Brew/Ultimo | Thrillist

don't get we wrong, east passyunk ave is a great place for someone to open a great six pack shop, but the foodery isn't the only one doing it.

_ The Budapest Cafe (11th and Fitzwater, Bella Vista) will open in June. The cafe will be operated by Chris Fetfatzes (whose family runs Bella Vista Beer distributor across the street) and his girlfriend, Heather Annechiarico. They promise to carry every one of the more than 3,000 different brands registered for sale in Pennsylvania.

_ Brew (Hicks and Mifflin, Newbold) has opened in the shadow of St. Agnes Hospital. Developed by the folks behind South Philly Tap Room, the coffee shop will carry 800-plus varieties for takeout once it lands its liquor license.

south philly soon will be the best place to get beer in town. bella vista is easily the city's best beer distributor (IMO).

Myself and most people I know who live in the area would disagree with you. There are urban pioneers over there and I wish them all the best of luck, but it is not nice, and it is not safe and SPTR is an oasis in a bad neighborhood. But I am sure you know more about the area then someone who actually lives in the area.

They had allegedly looked on Baltimore Ave. for this location for a hot minute but I think did not find a retail location that ideally suited their requirements. NW alternatively makes the most sense in terms of not competing with their other locations.

have you even been over there? you guys said it was more dangerous in gho too but that turned out to be false so I'm not sure how much I believe what the people east of broad say about 15th.

there's a beer deli near Garden court on pine that would be make an ideal acquisition, if it were for sale.

My sources said they were looking for a lot of square footage. Significantly larger than the one in No Libs. The looked at a space on Baltimore Ave. about as large as the Garden Courts Deli and didn't think it was big enough.

Also the Garden Courts Deli is part of the Garden Courts building's land as I understand it so I don't think its likely to be for sale. They wanted right on Baltimore not too far west when they were looking.

Newbold has a lot going for it over the long haul, including a growing immigrant population, besides hipster bleed over, IMO.

that's really an underrated area there on pine. nonetheless, I wonder why they don't upgrade their cc location for a better spot up on chestnut or so where the spaces are larger. in a perfect world, six pack shops wouldn't be so hard to come by. how is the one in garden court? do they sell anything like yard's?

raider.adam hangs out in newbold fairly often, so hey got that going for them (or against them)

The one in Garden Court currently has a pretty decent selection as is actually, after its big redo a couple of years ago. Certianly competitive with Best House and Allegro's. More than Yards they have a fair number of microbrews.

I guess maybe I'm a hardened north philadelphian. ; ) then you'll be fine going to the six pack shop....unless you live closer to Bella vista. that may be the best six pack shop in town when it finally opens. I have more reasons than ever to keep using car sharing, so I can partake in the beery goodness of south philly. btw, did you see SPTR will have a stout that was aged in maple syrup barrels?
