so there's a liquor license notice in the window now. this is the space johnnie rumored to be a wine bad. It's DAS 2028. DAS architects? Hoping for something interesting. I also noticed the space next to Ali's wagon is no longer for rent.

Meze is the tentative name for the restaurant under construction across from L’Oca at 2028 Fairmount Ave. in Fairmount, at the dead-end with Corinthian Street.

Coowner David Orphanides, a zoning attorney, says he and partner Savvas Novrosidis (Fairmount Pizza) intend it as a “comfortable, clean, fresh” place that will “focus on the human experience.” Orphanides says food from chef Tim Bellew (MANNA catering, plus Fire in Cherry Hill) will include as much organic as possible.

They hope to open after Labor Day.

lots of question marks except the owners sound greek and the name implies mediterranean small plates.
any clue what's going in next to ali's wagon?

Focus on the human experience? What the hell does that mean? Still, I'm happy to hear that something is going in there.

It means they will be serving such fine dishes as "two-legged mutton" and "long pork".

I saw lights on at night for the first time, actually doing work? maybe the liquor license got tied up. I think earth up in mt. airy took over a year to get a license because of the plcb's onerous rules about investors.

I saw a couple of construction workers coming out of there Saturday. If it's only the liquor license holding things up, wouldn't they just open without it to start generating ca$h?

Attorney David Orphanides is saying late February or early March for Fare (2028 Fairmount Ave.), his organic, sustainable restaurant with partners Savvas Navrosidis and Andy Siegel.

Orphanides, who’s represented plenty of bars and restaurants in the past in zoning proceedings, says the interior will be “sleek yet very comfortable,” with rich tones, wood and some stonework. About a hundred seats all told, with separate bar and restaurant sides. Chef Tim Bellew (MANNA catering, Cherry Hill’s Fire) will be handling a California-inspired eco-conscious menu built around organic, sustainable produce, wild-caught fish and free-range meats; the wine and beer lists will feature organic choices, as well.

The project was originally called Meze, when the Greek-by-heritage Orphanides and Navrosidis (the latter’s owner of Fairmount Pizza) thought they’d be pursuing a Mediterranean-inspired concept. They’ve since decided to broaden the scope a bit, given Bellew’s talents.

There's a new spot opening on Main St., Manayunk (in the old Saxby's location) called Meze, Turkish grill.

Meze Cafe - Google Maps

Is this same as the original concept for Fare, just a different location?
