All of their bars opened after my wife was pregnant with my first kid. I don't go out as much any more. But I'm seriously tempted to go out and support them.

I think I know who did this. It's a libertarian who is trying to turn people against excessive government. Seriously, whoever did this better hope they never get found out.

I think this helps answer the question, "Where does the Johnstown Flood tax go?"

It's paying their salaries! How self serving. Makes me wish I didn't like the sauce so much, I've been unwittingly supporting this for years.

The latest from joesixpack and the aftermath of the raid:

Word arrives this afternoon that some bars are having difficulty getting new shipments of Duvel Belgian Golden Ale - certainly one of the biggest selling Belgian ales in America - because the PLCB registration list refers to it only as “Duvel Beer.” In other words, distributors are suddenly gun-shy because of the State Police beer raid
Hopefully this is the start of the end for the PLCB.

    And it gets worse.

The theory that it was a bar owner who called in the tip, who is now suffering also, tempers the whole mess a teeney bit.

Can the threads having to do with this be merged? That would be great.

Want to get these board members attention? Start to call the private firms they are partners of and ask to speak with them regading this matter! Flood those phone/e mail banks along with the PLCB and other politicians!

Everyone has to wait longer for KBS now. The name was changed from "kentucky breakfast stout" to "KBS" and therefore needs to be re-registered. Found this out on Monday when I was placing an order for my event this weekend.
It isn't just this beer in particular though. Duvel? Really?
One person with an axe to grind has affected everyone that buys or sells beer in this state.
It might not be all bad though. Perhaps this is the begining of the end of these ridiculous laws. I think the scope of how outdated the Liquor Code really is now painfully obvious. It sucks that everything has come in to the spotlight this way.

    Best,
    Heather

Should this one get its own thread?

In another raid, State Police hit beer distributor, Origlio's, in Far Northeast | Philadelphia Daily News | 03/10/2010

In another raid, State Police hit beer distributor, Origlio's, in Far Northeast

    Philadelphia Daily News

Pennsylvania State Police have staged another beer raid, confiscating about a dozen cases from a leading distributor in Northeast Philadelphia and ordering it to stop selling several well-known imports, including Duvel, a popular Belgian beer sold throughout the Philadelphia region.

Agents from the State Police Department's Bureau of Liquor Code Enforcement (BLCE) descended Monday night on Origlio's Beverage, a wholesale distributor in the Far Northeast whose primary brands include Coors and Yuengling.

The police seized about a dozen cases from a small California beermaker, Russian River Brewing Co., and ordered Origlio's to stop selling Duvel and other beers, including Hacker-Pschorr, Paulaner and Monk's Cafe Ale, developed in Belgium for the Philadelphia bar at 16th and Spruce streets.

Well, I sent e-mail to Rep.'s Taylor and Donatucci. I personally know State Rep. Kessler of Berks County and I have e-mailed him as well. Nothing like screwing with my beer to get me motivated.

From what I've read not even reporters are getting any replies from State Troopers or the PLCB to questions about why these raids are happening. That's pretty astounding that information like that is being withheld.

You get a lot of that in law enforcement - tips from the public are usually considered confidential and since there was no police report, there really wasn't a releasable public document in the files (I don't know how Pennsylvania classifies it technically, but a lot of states define tips as part of the "investigative notes" and exempt them partially or completely from FOI laws). I would be interested to know if this kind of raid required a search warrant. If so, that might be releasable and might have details on what their probably cause was for the raid.

What needs to be addressed it that some of the stuff confiscated from the bars earlier has already been returned to them as their confiscation was a mistake. Someone needs to go on record exactly how something like that could happen. This is a goverment organization using State Troopers to enforce it's code and doing so incorrectly.

Most of the addy's are posted here or in the other thread (Local 44...). On their official pages they all have "Contact me" links which go to a form. You can actually get a good amount onto their form. That's what I've been using.

Do folks want contacts for the state rep districts for each of the 3 pubs again? Since the law effects every district you should CC your own rep regardless but definitely hit Donatucci since he chairs the committe and scheduled the hearings.
