Default Attention business owners and entrepeneurs! Fishtown needs a hardware store!!!

I am dying for a hardware store in Fishtown. It's hard to believe there isn't one at all. Home depot is too far away and while I love the Metro Hardware on Front and Spring Garden streets, that isn't reasonable walking distance from Fishtown either? Somebody pleeeaaase open a hardware store this year. I'll be one of your best and loyal customers!!

Was just looking through the 2010 business directory...a hardware store called Gelfand's hardware is at 2114 N Front Street (between Diamond/Coral and Susquehanna.) I had no clue it was there. I looked at the property on google's street view and it looks like a legit operating hardware store. I'm going to walk over and report what I find. Hopefully its a good hardware store!

One nice thing about the older hdw stores is that they carry parts for out of date faucets and other stuff that was used in older homes. The people in those stores often know something about what you are asking about.

What's wrong with Metro Hardware?

Default Just got back

Well I just got back from Gelfand's hardware. It's a nice little hardware store, fully stocked with all the common stuff you need around the house. I bought a drill and some bits. Prices were reasonable, and the staff there was very friendly and helpful.

Their hours are Monday-Saturday, 8am-5pm. I'm so glad I found this little shop. Now I don't have to go all the way to Metro Hardware or Home Depot when I need basic home improvement supplies.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Metro Hardware. i like their shop a lot but for those of us who don't drive in Fishtown it is not convenient or easy to get to without walking forever or taking a bus/el. I want to be able to just walk a few blocks down the street for what I need, which Gelfands Hardware provides for me.

Wood's Brother's is on Frankford and Lehigh, they have all sorts of lumber and hardware and cement and stuff. A block north is Betz, they have just about every oddball plumbing fitting you can imagine.

I would highly recommend both businesses. I walk in all the time going...um...er...I need that thing...that goes on the other thing? sort waggles around like this? They always have exactly what I'm looking for.

I've given up on Metro Hardware, it seems any time I go in there for something small, like a screw, bolt, pluming fixture or whatever they don't have it. This is not in comparison to a Home Depot either, I wish they were as well stocked as the average True Value Hardware

I second that. The guys were super nice and helpful there when I was sent by my mom to get a whole bunch of glass block in a certain size for her to make some Christmas presents last year. It said they carried it online and apparently in other cities, you have to order enough to do a small job rather than get, say, 8.

The guys behind the counter were super funny--one of the guys actually made the same craft "with his wife" (which is explained was actually him making the entire thing and she just had the idea) and he was very familiar with it. They carried it to my car and everything. For my stupid little maybe $50 purchase.

I've heard from my rehabber clients that they're a much better source for wood doors than Home Depot or Lowe's.

I hate to sound skeptical, but you're an attractive woman, that's why they carried your stuff to the car. I think I would have been on my own with my glass block. Had you moved to Mt Airy, you would be close to Killian's in Chestnut Hill. Great store.
