Default Front & Girard Looking Much Better Lately

Anyone notice how much cleaner the area looks lately? I'm not sure if its SEPTA doing the cleanup or if the businesses there (Around the Clock, DEAL$) got together to act responsibly. In any case, it looks great and much less depressing to take the El in the morning. This morning I actually saw a SEPTA employee hosing down the area next to DEAL$, so maybe it is SEPTA who has taken charge of the situation. If it is, we should let SEPTA know it is appreciated. After all, we all sure know how to howl when things need fixing.

It isn't super consistent, but when it's cleaner it is MUCH cleaner. Overall a huge improvement over a month ago. The one time I saw someone actively sweeping up, they had an NKCDC vest on, so I'll go ahead and give them credit, but not sure if they're doing this out of the goodness of their hearts or if neighboring businesses have contracted with them. Keep it up!

I don't care if it's contracted or free, whenever local businesses/residents actually care enough about the street to make an effort to clean it up, I'm glad! This spot has been needing it for a long while, too.

What a novel idea, paying someone to clean the streets. I wonder if any other cities have thought of this...

It is a great start for sure that hopefully will only build momentum.

Perhaps a not-for-profit will apply for a PTSSD grant to do a makeover of that intersection. I always that that would be an extremely valueable use of those funds.

Common sense is not one of the qualities of the people who run this great city !
But the occasional accidental good that does happen is always nice !

I'll give it a week. Rumor has it is a grass roots effort by Club Ozz. Imagine that? They need to put pigeon strips on the newstand corner. The bird**** on that corner is obscene. They also need to put them on the concrete benches at the foot of the entrance and exits. Them built-in homeless beds only add to the problem. Lastly, they should put up fencing around them public urination alcoves below the stairs. Nothing like a nice piss smell in the morning to start your day off. One more thing, can we all agree that trash cans and benches add no value to a 'hood and only do more harm than good.

Sure, you need a place to showcase your neighborhoods overflow of trash and public display of it's lowlifes, crazies, and junkies. Enjoy them corridor improvements!

The issue is far more complicated then you put it. First off I agree those benches are poorly done and located. Benches outside of public transit stops are rarely ever a good idea. Unless its directly at the stop while people wait for the train/trolley/bus/etc it usually attracts vagrants because its a place to rest plus you can hit up people as the arrive/depart from stations.

You have the city council view on trash cans. Try living in South Philly where we have NO trash cans so people have to use the sewer drains as receptacle. If you think there is a trash problem now wait until those cans are gone.
