FTA: "Many worry that gated communities like the coming Umbrella Factory condominiums will push residents out of the neighborhood, which is why 18 neighborhood groups have united to form the Eastern North Philadelphia Coalition. Their goal is the get Medini, one of the buildings new owners, to sign a community benefits agreement. This is to make sure any big development in their neighborhood is equitable development."

Another poverty-pimp shakedown. Because lord knows 5th and Master is just fine as is and we don't need no fancy-ass white people up in here.

The development is within the catchment of South Kensington Community Partners, which is a very pro-development community organization. I have not seen this project on their zoning committee agenda and they just had a meeting two nights ago. I would question where the reporting for this story is coming from.

That concept drawing my very well be old, and somebody got the wrong idea. Silica left all of their blueprints and concept pictures inside the building and somebody may have made the assumption that they are new.

After talking someone knowledgeable about the area, I think the phillyshark post is a load of bullish$t.

They took over this project from another developer that started very minor reno work in the early 2000s. They cleaned out the building and did some more (relatively) minor work on the building, then gave up a couple years back. The thing has caught on fire multiple times of the last few years as well.

The article seems to be bull**** because:
    1. It refers to Medini as "one of the new owners". He's not. His company took control of this building in ~2006.
    2. The lack of any direct quotes or names besides Medini, whose first name is not even given.
    3. The multiple typos and the fact that it seems that they simply reworded this article from 2006 Under the Umbrella - philadelphia weekly online

I've never heard of this site before, but because of the cruddy writing and borderline plagiarism I'm kind of assuming this blog is just a content generation scheme.

    Default Philly shark

I'm fairly certain Philly Shark is run out of Atid's offices at 2424 E. York. I'm also fairly certain that Eli Midini is the owner of Atid. He was partners with Michael Cohen on this parcel but I'm not sure what the current ownership is now. It was owned by some combination of the Atid guys when it was listed for Sheriff Sale a few months back.

This is likely just an effort to drum up interest as a last long shot.
