Default Hey Piazza, QUIT IT WITH THE HUGE OUTDOOR EVENTS YOU JERKS!

You don't have enough space or enough security or enough parking to accommodate the crowds you are trying to attract. If you absolutely must have gigantic outdoor concerts that attract thousands and thousands of people, kindly prevent them from parking in the lot that is supposedly for the grocery store. Oh, and you might also want to inform those same people that it's not a smart idea to go down the ramp to said parking lot in the wrong lane at 50 mph...and that maybe they shouldn't blow their lids when those of us who have waited in the regular lane for 30 minutes don't feel like letting them over.

Bottom line is that the management of these events has sucked from Day 1. Tower Management doesn't give a **** about how these events impact the people who actually LIVE around here and have to get around and live our lives - believe it or not, there is life outside of hipsterville. If they even made the slightest effort, I might understand, but they don't give a crap and they make that obvious. It's sad because I really love most of what's gone on down there, but when stuff like this happens it makes me want to take my dining-out and shopping business elsewhere.

Although I guess the upside of today's events is that no one got shot.

Hello, I am the Coordinator for the 2nd Street Festival. A friend and neighbor showed me your post. I would personally like to reply to your thread, as I feel that I am obliged to inform you all about the correct focus of the event. The 2nd Street Festival, which was started 4 years ago by three established Northern Liberties business owners, is in fact, not apart of the Piazza at all. Besides the kind use of their stage, which is managed by no one involved with Tower Investments, we do not attribute ourselves with the Piazza.
I understand your concern about parking, and we encourage people to take public transportation. In fact, we have a bike stable available for bicyclists, which the kind owners of Trophy Bikes is running. Of course, I know this Festival might impeded on neighbors and friends of the neighborhood. The goal of the Festival is not to create a headache for the neighborhood, but instead offer 10 hours of free, local entertainment including arts and crafts, music, and fare.
May I also note that the Festival is a registered Non-Profit, and all of our proceeds we are able to give back go directly to the neighborhood. For example, this year there will be a children's tent ( and local beer kiosk ) where all of the profits will return directly to the Liberty Lands park.

If you would like, please take a look at our website, where our mission statement and details of the day are listed : http://www.2ndstfestival.org/

I invite each of you to come to the event!

Great info! It has been an honor to be a part of the 2nd St Festival in the past couple of years and again this year as well (our office will have a tent/table) . Is such an awesome event as there is something for everyone! Kudos to the NLBOA who got this event off the ground .

You forgot to be a promotion whore by writing a blog entry and hyperlinking it. You know, like you do every time someone gets murdered. Capitalizing on the death of others is always a true sign of a good realtor.

Thousands and thousands is a bit of an exaggeration.

And what is your complaint with where they park? If you live in the neighborhood, was it really that important for the parking at Superfresh to be open for you?

The vast majority of people who go to these events are not hipsters. Your ignorance makes me think that you've never actually witnessed an event and just wish to go off like a hipster jumping on my crotch after 5 4locos.

Do you make much money off of that? I wouldn't think kids would have that much money for beer.

Correct. They are Icelandic. More likely to get pillaged. Of course when you see the longboats, just get out of the neighborhood.

But that sign says the festival only lasts for one day, so why would I hate the whole month?

Slow your roll, dude. Don't you think your constant trolling of certain posters and their friends is getting a little old?

I live in Kensington, so that grocery store is my local grocery store (since Thriftway is not a viable option for most people who prefer their produce without flies). So yes, I live far enough that I would have to drive there to get groceries, but close enough that I'm "local." I actually have no problem with hipsters, for the most part. I've been to tons of events at the Piazza which were on a much smaller scale, and had quite a good time, but still noticed that there was absolutely no regard for what was going on outside of the inner sanctum of the piazza itself. I've also read posts on this very site and others where people who lived directly next to the Piazza complained about trash, public urination, and other debauchery during other large-scale events held there. There is a looooong precedent of this utter lack of courtesy to the community when holding these huge events, so I'm not coming out of left field here.

Also, I want to be clear that I did not criticize the 2nd Street Festival at all. I'm aware it is separate from the Piazza.

We come from the land of the ice and snow with the midnight sun where the hot springs blow. Hammer of the gods, we drive our ships to new lands. To fight the horde, to sing and cry. VALHALLA I AM COMING.

So basically the OP's complaint is that people going to the concert parked in the Superfresh lot.

You forgot the idiotic rant about the parking ramp, which is impossible. There was a line of cars on one side of a ramp, yet a car came down the wrong lane at 50mph? From the size of the ramp it is hard enough for two lanes to exist, let alone going around a 90 degree turn and up/down it at 5mph let alone 50mph.

Not just that. It's that they don't respect neighbors because they make it hard for someone who has to drive from Kensington to park at Superfresh.

If Superfresh wants to ensure adequate parking for its customers, then Superfresh will tow the cars of non-customers at a profit. If they don't, then that's an issue OP needs to take up with Superfresh. I don't see why a show at the Piazza has anything to do with it.

People from Kensington don't own cars, they steal them.
