Just noticed these today. They seem like simple glass statues on the NE and SW side of girard and Columbia, but if you look inside there's mechanical equipment and some type of camera or sensor up top that is pointing in the direction of traffic.

They are light columns that were installed to be indicators that this street (Columbia Ave) is supposed to be a "gateway" to the Delaware river (because residents of Fishtown don't know there's a river down the street).
John Longacre said he wants a pair of these outside the South Philly Tap Room because people don't know what a Newbold is.
Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.
It's also a surveillance system so the PPD & FNA can spy on the halfway house on the corner, but keep that on the DL.
Thanks for the link.
All in all, this project is ridiculous. You can't even read what the hell the graphics say. They just look like two tubes sitting there. Maybe during at night they look a little better, but they don't actually give any information whatsoever. It just looks like two tubes mistakenly placed on girard.

They look pretty cool at night, but as far as I could tell it might as well be the solar system.
I couldn't tell it was a map.
Can they be stapled into? They'll make nice billboards.
