Default Heads up about lot on 2nd and Wildey.

I know a lot of people park there for a little bit during the day and a quite a few more park there at night. But they just stuck up tow signs. I had a friend drop off some stands at my house and she was there for literally 10 minutes before PPA ticketed her and a tow truck was getting ready to tow her out. the reason for the ticket was "private lot".

    so...don't park there.

PPA can't ticket for being in a private lot.

Have them check the badge no. on the ticket. If it is 3 numbers it is PPA. 4 numbers would be police. I'm not sure if police can write tickets for it, but I definitely know that PPA can't write them and I fought them before and won on similar tickets. Good luck.

The Lew Blum sign indicates private ownership. PPA can't tow unless the vehicle was ticketed by ppd first, I believe. PPA can't tow at all unless you're in a streets department tow zone or you are in the boot&tow file. IIRC.

To add to this, even private towing companies cannot tow from private property without a PPD ticket first. Thanks City Council!

Say huh?! I have cars towed from the private parking lot behind my store all the time. No ticket, no nothing. Tow truck comes up and says, "this one?" and it is gone in a minute.

According to 311, they aren't supposed to do that.

Frequently Asked Questions for Tow Truck Operators
    Regarding Bill 100213 (Enacted)
What does this new law mean to towing companies with Philadelphia towing licenses?
These new law establishes additional regulations for towing signs and requires that all illegally parked
vehicles must be ticketed prior to being towed from private lots, private property, and driveways.
    Philly 311

    Sections of the relevant law:
    (11) Towing From Private Lots, Private Property and Driveways. Only towing
companies licensed under paragraph (3) of this Section shall be permitted to tow any
illegally parked vehicle from any licensed or unlicensed parking lot, from private
property, from any common driveway and from in front of any driveway where the
vehicle is blocking access to that driveway.
    [...]
    (d) No vehicle shall be hooked, towed, or handled in any manner under this
subsection unless the vehicle has been ticketed for a violation at the location where the
vehicle is to be towed, and until the towing company has notified the Police Department
that the vehicle [is illegally parked and] is to be towed, except that in a licensed parking
lot, a vehicle may be moved to another location in the parking lot prior to ticketing.

Same here. I got towed once by Lew Blum. No ticket. It was from a private parking lot shared by 2 businesses... I was parked in the wrong spot.
I wonder when that law went into effect.

Wouldn't this law make most tows illegal?! I mean, if my car was towed from a lot and no ticket was issued, there's no way in hell I'm paying the tow fees without getting the tow company in trouble.

Btw- my situation is the same. 2 businesses share 3 private parking spots and it is always a mess when a random person or contractor thinks they can park in one of the spots. We've always called and never once did PPA issue a ticket to anyone.

The way it works in my condo (private) parking garage is you call the police. Police come out issue a ticket to illegally parked vehicle. Call George Smith and they come out and tow. In reality we call for a tow they ask if police were called. Tow company usually comes before police, but it all happens rather quick. I was surprised how fast the police came out. It does seem like a huge waste of police time. There was a thread about this maybe a year or two ago when having to get the police to issue a ticket went into place.

Ok, so that law was fairly recent then. My towing incident happened (at least) 3 years ago, and probably predates the ticket requirement.
