Why do hipster waiters/waitresses suck?

I noticed, not to mention any names...ahem PYT and Dos Segundos...that the waiters/waitresses at these establishments take their sweet time when serving food/drinks or checking up. I've been to these places a number of times and have experienced less than mediocre service. Is it because I'm from Northeast Philly and wear Express clothing...come on!

Oh, and it's not all of them...North 3rd, El Camino, and Bar Ferdinand have been great.

I tend to return to places I have good dining experiences in. I usually don't return to places I don't enjoy. I think this is the way most people operate. If you don't like a place, you don't go there. Are you new to dining out in general?

Sometimes food takes longer to cook at a restaurant that it does at the food courts you are accustomed to.

Take your time, have your drink, and wait for your food like an adult.

No, fairly seasoned actually. I tend to give places more than one shot to suck. You know...maybe the hipster was having a bad day because someone questioned his/her unwarranted self importance.

Totally. I don't know what it is with these hipster places, but I was in the drive thru at Starbucks last weekend, and they didn't even ask me if I wanted whipped cream on my Mocha Frappuccino Lite. They asked me if I wanted them to scrape it off, I was like, "well yeah..." I'm never going back there again!

For the most part I've found "hipster" servers to be as good as anyone. I'm pretty low maintenace though, maybe my expectations are lower than others. If I get particularly bad service when I go somewhere for the first time, chances are I'm not going back.

Sorry-just because there's a designated area, it doesn't mean the entire populous is of a certain failed makeup. I'm sure you north easterners are used to clumping all blacks, latinos, and portugese into the same mold-but it doesn't work like that in NoLibs.

Saw a guy, clad in an Express button up, walk up to a busy bar at Barcade and ask for two Amstel Light bottles. After face palming a few seats away, I look up and he asks if there was anything on tap that was like Amstel Light or "Lager". I'm going to guess he was from the Northeast.

I agree, but I don't tend to take notice if they are hipsters or not. Don't really care as long as service is good. I agree with you on service at PYT and El Camino is also on my list of bad service. I've given them both multiple tries and at this point I'm done with them. Mixed results for me at Dos Segundos, some good service and occasionally bad. I also was a waiter/bartender for 10 years at some really busy restaurants so I do have a pretty good understanding of the job. I completely understand when a place is packed and the kitchen is getting hammered, but that does not mean table service has to suffer.

I eat out all the time, especially for lunch and am served by hipster wait staff more often than not. I'll be dressed in a suit or business casual attire and usually get great service. Nobody cares what I'm wearing. I'm usually friendly, polite, and look people in the eyes when I talk to them so that could have something to do with it too.
