Default Trash all over sidewalks on North 3rd St.

Seriously. Can the residents make some kind of effort to pick up trash outside of their own dwellings?

Is it too much to ask the suburban spoiled transplants to help their neighborhood look good? I am constantly picking up trash outside of my apartment and have been tempted to walk the entire length of the block to clean it up.

Let's take some initiative people. I know we didn't create the mess...but we can help mitigate the problem.

So-called "suburban spoiled transplants" aren't the only ones trashing up the city. I understand you may not like outsiders moving in and changing the neighborhood, but unless you're willing to provide evidence that the newcomers are any worse than those who previously inhabited it, you can't blame them on everything.

That being said, it is good that you're trying to organize cleanup. Shows that at least some people have some pride in their streetscapes.

I totally sympathize with you, Dean. I have the same issue with my neighbors just north of Girard. When they see me cleaning up the block, I hear "It will only get dirty again in an hour." Which, to me, is like forgoing showers since you will only stink again tomorrow. Others don't clean up saying, "I didn't put it there" or "It's not my trash." I just keep doing it hoping other will join someday. Lead by example as they say.

Most of the trash on my block comes from circulars especially the bagged "Red Plum" ones on Thursdays. Also people put out overflowing recycling which gets knocked over or blown out by the wind. It's a never ending battle but don't give up.

    Default stay on it, Dean!

It's the same way on Front where I am. Slight difference is that there aren't actually a lot of residences on my block. Between the vacant lots and the semi-occupied industrial sites, I'm not shocked that people take very little ownership, but it does mean that in order to make the entire approach to my front door look decent, it usually involves picking up half a block full of trash. I shouldn't have to do it, and half the time I'll admit I don't, but I refuse to think of it as an exercise in utility. Everytime someone sees you doing it, it makes a small difference.

I am not saying they are the ones trashing the city. I'm saying, as residents of No Libs, they should aid in the cleanup of their own properties. I see people walk in and out of their apts/homes for days without even attempting to pickup the trash right outside their front doors.

i work from home and used to sit right by the front window in my old place, the litter comes from 2 main places. The first is kids and other *******s that throw trash out their car and when they're walking home from school, and then kick it down the sidewalk and into the street. The second is the garbage men on trash pick up day. if the trash doesn't come out of the container right into the truck they won't bother picking it up off the ground. if you leave your dog **** in little plastic bags and don't put it in real trash bags, they're not going to bend over and pick something up off the ground. basically they don't really put any effort in to their job and don't care how much trash goes everywhere when they're trying to get it into the truck.

All of N. 3rd will eventually just be an extension and private road for Finnegan's Wake, so what does it matter. The filth pigs have won. Nothing to see here... well, until March of the Santas comes and craps on the street once again this year.

A current and long time business owner on third would walk to his establishment wearing gloves even on the hottest of days.

    Y U ?

To pick up the trash along the way.

    Awesome he is.
