anyone want to place bets as to whether this is going to end up opening at all? I walk by daily and sometimes put my head up to the glass and don't feel as if I've seen so much as a paint roller move positions in several weeks. Seems a shame since it looks about 96% of the way there.
I think it's been "soon" for about two years now. I peek in there pretty much every day when I walk by. It's been a while since anything has changed in there.
Last I heard, they were waiting on inspections. But that was months ago. I'm assuming the project has been abandoned, the guy isn't even giving any updates on facebook as to the status, whereas he was at least doing that a couple months back.
Shame, since it does look just about ready to open.
If anyone out there has ever had a dream of opening a pre-built BBQ restaurant, then I guess here's your chance...worst case scenario, I assume all the improvements make it appealing to other restaurant operators who could probably open a different concept in the same space without much beyond some easy decor switches (including new awnings).
On May 20 on FB he responded that they were catering until their Fishtown restaurant opens -- so might still be in play?

I just want to inform you all that we are still moving forward with the restaurant. We had placed the project on hold last 6 months due to our schedule conflicts with our other projects however at this moment we putting the finishes & touches and hope to be able to announce a definite opening date the next couple of weeks.
Thank you to all of our FB & Twitter fans - friends & Family & bbq customers & supports for your patience and wonderful words! We look forward to providing Philly some "GREAT" BBQ!!

I put this up in another thread about Bubba's. I don't see it as DOA. Hell, the setup will be night and day, and I think quite the opposite will happen. If one gets busy, people will settle and flock over to the other. I already see it with Frankford Hall. Even Fishtown Tavern has gained customers from people unwilling to wait in Frankford Hall lines during the weekend.

Even the setups will be apples and oranges. The setup of Bubba's is very centralized on the bar that encompasses the entire center and most of the place. Starr's will most likely be a sit down dining spot with a small or non-visible bar, and more thematic with the shack in the back.
I still see the setups being like night and day, with more than enough room for both. I think they'll all do well. Hell, some nights theres no room around here to eat period. A few nights I've walked by just about every restaurant in Fishtown on my day off and couldn't see an open seat to eat so I'll go to center city.
GET REAL. Comedy you can believe...
