New Internet Casino opening on Frankford | Fishtown.US
Been wondering about it myself.
Ugly, ghetto-ass signage is already up in the windows.
Great.
Hows that 'Arts Corridor' coming along?
Guess I got my answer.

Wow! Be sure to read the article linked from the fishtown.us thread:

What puzzles me is that this is the same area that most of the casiNO people who were super vocal against Sugarhouse reside. And yet this thing slides right onto their front lawn and there seems to be no opposition to it.
It's simple, if you read the article. Those sweepstakes cafés illegal gambling dens sweepstakes cafés never run into problems until after they open. That's because, from a regulatory standpoint, they mimic ordinary Internet cafés--until the complaints start to flood in.

I think we have the true owner of the building, unless you guys suspect that this owner did a very fast flip-job.

That's because nobody knew it was coming because I suspect the owner tried to stay on the DL. Everybody and their mother in the whole state knew Sugarhouse was coming a long time ago and the media was following the property speculators whoring themselves out to the casino partners for a long time.
This is different. The property is C2 Commercial. So I bet the permits were taken out like an "internet coffee shop". Looks benign on the permits and it fits the zoning, so there is no neighborhood input required. There is no reason to contact FNA if you have by-right.
But since it's been hours since they frosted those windows and put the stickers on there, NOW I bet there's gonna be some interest.

Relax! No one knew about this until the signage came up a couple of days ago. They did not go through any neighborhood groups either. This will die a death similar to what that pawn shop on the other side of Delaware ave from Sugarhouse did.

I just read on twitter that the owner kicked the "cafe" out. Could have just been a great marketing ploy. Stir up some fake controversy about the property then when it gets enough publicity pull the old 52 fake out and open up the real business. Genius!
No I have personal knowledge of what happened. The owner did kick the tenant out. The building owner's family is very upset over this (being duped by this tenant, and they are also mad at me for posting the ownership information online, which I am taking care of deleting now because the situation is resolved). Those stencils have only been up there since Monday or so.
The owner of the building was duped and did not know until after the windows were frosted and the stencils went up. The thread on fishtown.us didn't appear until almost 2 days after the window frosting. I walk past this building every single day just about because it's right by the CAPA exit to the EL station; which is probably why the tenant wanted to be in that building... it's close to the EL.
Luckily this thing did not get into a bigger controversy like it would have. If it weren't for finding the owner (someone else contacted the owner and was EXTREMELY RUDE, I don't know who that person was), the place might have opened and the owner might not have known until a month out. People saw computers being loaded into the building and it looks like they were just about to open, too.
I called the city THREE times about this property and they couldn't tell me over the phone if the tenant had taken out a BPL. I'm guessing this was a totally not-legit business.
It's back in play? Is this the same building?
