    Default Good car repair?

I have an '09 Nissan Sentra. The pipe on the muffler has been rusted through. I have a temporary patch on it* but the whole muffler needs to be replaced. I also need a transmission fluid replacement and state inspection. I'm guessing a local guy could do it cheaper than Pepboys will, and I'm wary of letting Pepboys do anything more complicated than an oil change on my car.

Can anyone recommend a good car repair place in the neighborhood?

    * Thanks to the guys at Village Auto Service in East Syracuse, NY for not only staying late on a day they weren't even open (just happened to be in the shop to take care of some other stuff), but doing it for free in 15 minutes.

Garrison's is indeed great. In fact, just the other day they referred me to Julio's Mufflers for my exhaust leak because they said it would be much more expensive if they (Garrison's) did the work themselves. Since it sounds like your issue is exhaust-related, you may want to try Julio's if Garrison's doesn't work out:

Well, I ended up bringing the car to Garrison's. They ended up bringing it to Julio's to do the repair to the exhaust (they were able to do a good repair where the leak was happening rather than replacing the muffler and stuff). That, combined with state inspection and replacing the transmission oil (which is a $150 job at pep boys) cost less than $300 in total.

Haven't picked up the car yet, but I'm happy so far.

Garrison's is a reputable, class A business. My husband (also a mechanic) has dealt with them for years and has nothing but good things to say about them. The fact that he can recognize when a shop is screwing a customer or is doing right by them, means alot when he says they are a good place.
