Default Pop's Playground Vandalism (Huntingdon & Trenton Ave)

    I'm reposting this from fishtown.us:

Monday Evening September 26th at approximately 10 pm vandals entered Pop’s Black Coyle Mcbride Playground and cut down the center Basketball Hoops and Back boards. The estimate of this damage is upwards of $4000 dollars.

Friends of Pops is deeply saddened that someone saw fit to destroy part of our wonderful playground and are asking anyone with any information to come forward.
Please let help as we work together to find the person who would literally steal toys from the children of our neighborhood.

Emails can be submitted to popsplayground [at] gmail [dot] com or phone calls can be made to the 26th District at 215-686-3261

A lot of work and effort went into rebuilding this playground, including a skate park and two basketball courts. This park and Cione are the only two useable playgrounds in walking distance for area kids, and this area has a high density of children living here.

If you observed anyone last Monday after 10PM messing with the basketball court fixtures, please contact the 26th District directly @ (215) 686-3261

Or if you prefer not to contact police, please email popsplayground@gmail.com

This is just obscene. Vandalism and theft of public property should carry stiff penalty. I asked somewhat about this when I saw it on Facebook but was surprised to find out that the penalty was not more than a slap on the wrist... I hope the crooks get caught. First, it is copper in houses, then this... It is just awful. I also have hard that aluminium bleachers were stolen from West Philly high schools as well.
