    1) DINING AND ENTERTAINMENT

    Bars
    17 Spot at 17th and Fairmount. Low key bar with no draught system, friendly clientele. Uusually hip hop or, sometimes at happy hour, old school latin music.
    St. Stephen's Green-beautiful pub with a decent rotating draft list, generally good (though sometimes hit or miss) food. there's a basement bar with a huge tv, a back deck with a canpy to save you from the monkeys, and outdoor seating in nicer weather.

    London Bar and Grill-Good pub grub though the dining menu can be hit or miss (from the ever changing kitchen). Good beer selection (fairmount's only beer engine) and good drink specials. a great neighborhood bar.

    All are open, yes (and, it's Northstar Bar.....). Figs & Trio are BYOs.

    Brunch during the weekends and Dinner daily.
    Specialty Pizzas, Italian food, sandwich and bar menu.

    I believe they have a night life also.

    I just noticed brandywine pizza is open til midnight and 1 am on weekends.

    Don't forget a new addition to Fairmount Ave. -- Rybread -- next to Illuminaire and across from CVS, look for the ORANGE sign, it can be missed. Great sandwiches! For Breakfast and Lunch

    LOCAL CAFÉ & BAR TO HOST FUNDRAISER FOR CALCUTTA H0USE


    Philadelphia, PA – Flying Carpet Café and Bar, 1841 Poplar Street (19th and Poplar), in the up and coming Francisville section of the City, will host a fundraiser – Art and Jazz - to benefit neighboring non-profit, Calcutta House located at 16th and Girard Avenue.

    The event will take place Thursday evening, August 25 beginning at 6PM. Art work of local artist Justin Hinte and photo artist Celeste Hardester will be auctioned with 50% of the proceeds earmarked for Calcutta House. Music will be provided by Philly native jazz vocalists, Tasha Underwood and Jeannie Brooks, a Philadelphia Peoples’ Choice Award winner, who will be accompanied by a spectacular Jazz Trio.

    Recently opened Flying Carpet Café and Bar, is an eclectic corner bar, has a Mediterranean twist serving 14 varieties of organic teas, 20+ different wines, 14 Craft Beers and Exotic Cocktails.

    Calcutta House, founded in 1987, provides housing and supportive services to homeless, indigent adults living with and dying of AIDS. Calcutta House has two facilities – 1601 West Girard Avenue and 1221 North 19th Street.
