    Yeah, no racism here.
    How about this equation?

    You=RACIST

Show me one part where I meant 1)a serious word, and 2)any one thing remotely racist.

You are constantly proving the point. There is nothing racist about this, and plenty about communities wanting to keep halloween a small, neighborhood based event. Idiots like you then come out of the woodwork and decry anything under the sun-even a little sarcastic post about children-as racist. Hell, you probably can't even wear white socks out of racial fear. Idiotic.

I love the white socks analogy. Wish I woulda thought of it first.

That's always the first question I ask. I don't really care about the food in a restaurant, just that's in a nice area.

Now I must go. My limo has arrived.

until you lived through it you could only have a narrow minded idea. The Mexican and Asian are very kind and thankful but the black kids are more along the lines , "dats all you'll got" Trust me it's not about having fun for them or their parents, 75% of them aren't dressed , this is the same entitlement mentality they use to govern their lives. The WHITE MAN owes me something.

I've "lived through it" for 12 years, and no one has been anything less than polite. And again, we're talking about candy. Get a grip.

Indeed, all the kids I've encountered on Halloween have been respectful and conducted themselves well.

The story may be a good reason to keep a gun handy for protection, but I don't see what it has to do with having a separate halloween night. Seems like this story could have happened on any given night.

I feel pity for those who feel they need to hide under their beds on the actual Halloween night. Are there some troublemakers? Of course! I grew up in the sticks, and we still had troublemakers there too. No big deal though - the majority of the folks are just out trying to have a fun night. If you turn off your lights and pull the blinds on Halloween, too bad... that means you miss sights like these:

Some of you sound like you'd be much happier living on a gated cul-de-sac someplace.

This kid obviously has an agenda with his bigoted, homophobic hate speech of a antigay costume.

Those who prize diversity the highest and are the softest on crime live in places like Villanova, Swarthmore, Haddonfield, or Vermont. "Diversity for thee, but not for me!" is their motto.

Diversity, as a word, has turned into a racist tool in this city.

I was once on a mayoral appointed board that had jews, lesbians, gays, straights, men, women, asians, and even a cross dresser. The powers that be came to us and said more 'diversity' was needed for the board. We laughed and said that we had the most diverse board in Philadelphia. Upon more prodding, it became obvious that they wanted more black people on the board. When we pointed out that one board member was black but never attends meetings, and another is 1/2 black? We were told that wasn't enough.

Philly is super diverse! Just look at the mayor, police commissioner, fire commissioner, DA, majority of City Council, school chief, etc. Oh, wait.

I've taken my now 8 year old daughter out for each Halloween, ON HALLOWEEN. Each time it has been a lot of fun. My 3 year old son will be on his 4th Halloween and my 9 month old will be doing his first.

Yes, there are black kids from outside of the neighborhood that come here to trick-or-treat on Halloween. Yes, some of them don't wear costumes. Yes, some of them might be a little rambunctious. By and large, they're perfectly well-behaved and just out to celebrate a holiday. Only a complete miser would deny a CHILD candy on Halloween because they are from out of the neighborhood and not wearing a costume, which isn't even to get into the very murky racial issues really at play here. Somehow, if it was a bunch of poor white kids from the next neighborhood over coming into the hood I doubt there'd be an alternate Halloween.
This is my view as well. On Halloween, there are certainly more African American kids walking around my neighborhood than at most other times of the year. All but a very few are in costume, with their parents, and truly excited about going trick-or-treating. And they all say thank you. I'm more than happy to have them here - and if it is because we have better candy, or more people handing it out, than in their own neighborhoods, well, all the better that they come and have a good time.
