My theory about the laundromat at Brown and Bucknell

So I live really close to the laundromat at Brown and Bucknell, and I've noticed recently that there are often shady characters sitting on that bench out front early in the morning and late at night, apparently just waiting there. This morning, there was a middle-aged lady with long, matted hair, dirty clothes and dirty shoes just sitting there, her hands fidgeting. There's often an older man early in the morning, sitting there, drinking a 40. He may have finally kicked the bucket, as I haven't seen him in a while, and it seemed like he was looking worse and worse every time I saw him. His clothes were never clean, and he always looked strung out. I'll see these people when I leave my house to walk the dog, and they're usually gone by the time I get back. They're not doing laundry. I know that.

So my theory is that someone is dealing drugs, using the laundromat as a meet-up spot. Whatsayou?

I saw that woman last night around 6, blabbering to herself and walking in and out of the laundromat. Not sure what to make of it. Didn't I hear somewhere that the laundromat is closing?

I know the operators of the laundromat signed a new 7-year lease last year, before the place was put on the market. I guess the new owners could still kick them out, though I don't think it's been sold yet, since the for sale sign is still up.

I highly doubt there is drug dealing. I don't believe anybody needs to set up shop in fairmount when there are plenty of "safe-havens" close by. I think these vagrant-like people know that the bench is a place they can sit and not get kicked out. Spots like that are kind of rare in the neighborhood, because people like you and me typically would tell them to get lost or call the cops.

On the other hand, they could just be doing laundry, you racist.

It's possible. They're definitely not doing laundry. And I don't think they live nearby. They're also all white, if that helps.

The people I'm talking about haven't done laundry since 1983.

The woman I saw the other night was not doing laundry. She was aimlessly walking in and out of the place and muttering to herself. Who knows if it's drug related or not. Just some sketchy characters around the place.
