Default Somebody hit 20 parked cars on Poplar St.

It's actually not surprising. People FLY down Poplar at the point where it splits from the trolley tracks. Cars on both sides on the street, and once he hit one, he probably pinballe down the street until he ran out of momentum.

Wow, saw the aftermath this morning, but most of the cars were gone by 9am. I assumed it was the result of someone blowing the stop sign on the little cross street, which happens a lot along Poplar. The 3 that I saw were in bad shape & 2 were in the process of being towed, while neighbors swept up the detritus.

Bad week for cars in the area, as I know of 2 break-ins that happened in broad daylight at 17th & Brown and 18th & Fairmount, where windows were smashed to gain entry.

I saw this story headline this morning and held my breath until I found the address.....not that far away from where my car was parked. Damn!

    Default 1900 Poplar

Looks like it was the 1900 block, west of the post office. Kind of hard to get up to speed from Corrinthian, and you would have had to ignore the Stop sign @ 20th. They suggest the driver had a medical condition, which sounds most plausible.

In the last Millenium, there was a rash of crashes at 30th & Poplar, all due to running the Red Light. That became a mandatory All Stop and nothing has happened since then.
Ironically and sad to say, one neighbor had 2 vehicles totalled there. She don't park on Poplar anymore, nor does she buy new cars.
BTW, look at the wall next to the steps @2945 Poplar, about 6-7' up, that's a scratch mark from a vehicle which went up the neighboring garden, rolled 180, yawed 540 and landed in the intersection. Estimated top speed; 80MPH.
Yep Poplar can be the Atco of Brewerytown, Thank you, PCC trolley for moving traffic off of Girard, where you could kill, injure, destroy more etc.

i can't tell you how many cars i see go through 30th & Poplarwith just tapping their brakes at 7am. maybe 1 of every 6 come to a complete stop, and that's generally because a there's a dog walker or parents walking with their kids to the bus stop in the intersection.

i wish the police would sit there and write tickets, rather than doing god knows what up at Lemon Hill.

Actually the buses, trucks and other commercial traffic which diverts off of Girard does a good job of slowing down. I spend a lot of time picking up trash and keeping my eyes open. To your point, I wish the Police would swing a patrol down 30th, and will suggest that to our Police liason.
