Default Armed Robbery @ 19th and Wallace

One of my tenants was robbed at gunpoint this evening waiting for the bus at the corner of 19th and Wallace. The robbers were two teenage black kids in hooded sweatshirts. They got a cell phone, credit cards, and cash. I'm putting up a $500 reward for any information leading to their arrest and prosecution.

My wife and I ran into a similar situation a few months ago...the description matches what we encountered. The incident happened on 16th and North. Good luck in the search; hate that it happened again.

It would be a shame if someone blasted those teens away.

It was around 3:40 PM yesterday Sunday 7/29. My tenant and his girlfriend were sitting on the steps of the the Lithuanian Church waiting for the 33 bus to arrive at 3:44 PM. One of the perps had on a dark, black baggy sweatshirt, unzipped, the other a large white t-shirt. If you know of anyone within 2-3 blocks of there that has security cameras, please let me know as they may have recorded them heading to or from the scene.

Here's to hoping the thugs get caught and put in a deep, dark hole for a long time.

Just goes to show that you always have to be alert to your surroundings and the people around you, no matter where you're at or what time of day you're there.

This additional news of Spring Garden area crime was just today reported by the SG Civic Assn:

"Everyone is urged to be extremely cautious when walking in the neighborhood, or when arriving home in a car, even in the daytime, because of recent armed robberies that took place in broad daylight.

This morning, a local resident was walking near 2024 Wallace at 8:45 in the morning. He was approached by a tall dark skinned young black man (late teens or 20's) on a bicycle. The assailant held a gun to his head and took his wallet and cell phone.

At 11:30 this past Sunday, a young male on a bicycle pulled a gun on a resident in front of 2124 Wallace and robbed him of cash. The criminal had apparently been circling the area for some minutes looking for a victim."

A discarded shot gun was found in the bushes in front of a neighbors house at 645 N. 22nd St.

Is it my imagination or are these types of crimes worse this summer? Seems like every neighborhood in PS has threads relating to home invasions, robberies with guns, shoplifting, etc.

Certainly seems that way. What's interesting is the vast majority of the perps all fit the same description: young black male, late teens early twenties. I'm thinking its either the next generation trying to earn their "street cred" or that there's no room left in the drug game in their neighborhoods, and they're committing robberies to get the money they need to keep up with their peers. When there's a lot of money to be made selling drugs most of these kids seem to stick with just shooting at each other over turf or petty arguments. So maybe the squeeze on the drug business, with less potential buyers, is forcing the dealer thugs to find other ways of making money to support their dope ghetto lifestyles. Because, you know, earning money legitimately is a notion that's impossible for most of these kids to even conceive of.

I'm one of the victims of the 19th & Wallace robbery two Sundays ago. I was contacted this morning and told that an arrest had been made for our robbery, which, I'm assuming, covers the remaining two.

I will have more information regarding everything tomorrow- Big relief, I'll say.

Indeed it is. I'm thinking he got caught after his third robbery (total) on the 2000 block this morning (8:45 am), and they can link him to ours & the one on the 2100 block this past Sunday. Like I said, I'm going to receive more information tomorrow.

I think people commit these types of crimes because they're drug addicts and need to fund their habits. I certainly hope the arrest was for the perpetrator of all three of these crimes. Thanks for updating us, callinm!

Description didn't seem to sound like an addict.
