Default Getting an abandoned car removed

There's a beat-up Volvo station wagon that's been parked on 27th Street between Pennsylvania Ave. and Brown for what seems like months. Vermont tags, tons of junk loaded into the car. It doesn't look like anyone has been near that car for quite some time.

With parking at such a premium, I'd like to see if it can be towed. Who do I call to investigate? The police? Parking authority? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I called 311 about a car last year, gave them the tag number, and it was gone the next day. You could start there.

Next day? That's odd, because the owner is supposed to have 2 weeks... maybe cause it was out of state?

Regardless, you can call 311 as mentioned above or fill out this form: Philly311 - Abandoned Auto Online Form

What about the old red porsche on Pennsylvania? feels like that car has been there since last summer.

Yes, it was gone the next day, and it was a PA tag. Maybe it was coincidence, or maybthey called the owner and told him to move it, I don't know. I have very low expectations about these things, but it worked in this case.

It's possible it had been attracting complaints for a while and the owner had already been notified.

It also could have been stolen. There is a lot near me that gets at least one stolen car dumped in it every year. I call 311 and they're almost always gone the next day. Legit abandoned cars on the street have always taken 2 weeks for me. They're supposed to get a ticket if their tags are expired and a chance to respond before it gets towed.

Thanks for the info. I reported it to 311 last week - we'll see what happens next.

If the abandoned auto is considered hazardous (leaking fluid, broken glass, jagged metal, etc) it can be towed almost immediately.

Otherwise the notification procedure will take place and that will take 3-4 weeks.
