Plus, I have a wife and two-year-old to bring with me. Biking it is not really an option.

Turns out there is now a dinner in Melrose Park the night before too (Saturday).

Here's what I'm thinking, though: The neighborhood is usually dead labor day weekend. As in, you can pull up any time of night and easily find a parking space on almost every block. Maybe this event will just cancel that out, so parking will be like any other weekend. *Fingers crossed?*

I'm not sweating the parking. Most people are probably staying in hotels anyway. It's only 50k people. I would just drive and you can always drop off the kid and park by the girard college wall if you have too, or the surface lot, and walk home.

Biking to a wedding is completely insane, even if you were a single dude.

Cant you take a train to a stop close by and have someone you know from the wedding pick you up?

My girlfriend and I rode our bikes to a wedding once, and it was great. It was six blocks, though.

Cool story. Yeah, I'd rather drive and risk the parking issue.

Good choice. I wasn't suggesting biking at all, just saying that it's not insane per se.

Some of us were here before the parkway was the regular stop for every festival that the city could dream up - bread and circuses.

Some of the construction for this even is really significant. When I drove by last night, they looked like they were building an airplane hangar on Van Coln Field.

Nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, it's more like "Hey you damn kids, why are you shutting down all of the streets around my lawn to open your lemonade stand so you can make a ton of money and not even give me a glass." At least with the Fourth of July all can go down and see what the fuss is about. There is very little public good besides tax revenue that this will create, and that can be had using a private venue without screwing the general public. Oh wait, there is the PR aspect that this will bring - we'll see how that shakes out...

You're a 100% right. This concert does very little to benefit the city, and it's going to be a huge hassle for residents of Fairmount/SG. Should of had it at the Linc.

how do you know the concert will do nothing to benefit the city? hwo do you know they wanted to be in the wasteland that is the linc? nobody else is booking concerts at that boondoggle, er, venue. the reality is you are simply being a nimby.
While Bruce Springsteen performs at the Phillies' ballpark on Sept. 2, Made in America's second night, and Sept. 3, Lincoln Financial Field across the street will be empty Labor Day weekend, as it is virtually every other day of the year...When the Linc opened nine years ago, then-Eagles president Joe Banner proclaimed that "a dramatic new venue such as this can play a major role in enhancing the city's profile, while at the same time having a positive economic impact. In all, we're conceivably talking about hosting 30 to 50 major events a year."...
This year, the stadium will host 22 on-field events and precisely one concert, while we continue to foot the bill...it wasn't worthy of Made in America. Understandably, festival organizers desired a more urban-yet-verdant setting, a place that offered multiple stages and a photogenic vista
Karen Heller: Peace, love, and dollar signs on the Parkway, but crickets at the Linc

regarding the logistics, I'm not sure this will be enough. I think that extra regional rail service is needed, particularly since normal weekend schedule includes the God awful sunday headways. I'm not sure how feasible it is to expect people to drive to fern rock or frankford. we'll see. at least it will provide some added mobility for people trying to get around that aren't going to the concert but I think running a Saturday schedule both days might be better.
Officials say travelers should take the Broad Street and Market-Frankford subway lines to within walking distance of the concert site on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Both lines provide connections with SEPTA rail lines, buses, and trolleys.

SEPTA will increase service on both lines during the Sept. 1 and 2 festival, with trains running every five to 10 minutes. Service will also be added on city trolley routes and on the Norristown High-Speed Line, which connects to the Market-Frankford Line at the 69th Street Terminal.

Regional Rail lines will operate on a normal weekend schedule.

Please explain how this will be a benefit. Will it showcase how wonderful Philadelphia is because we can shut down multiple public streets in order to create a private festival that only ticketed attendees will be able to enjoy? How does that benefit the people who want no parts of the show, yet still have to figure out how to navigate around multiple blocked public rights of way? As your article states, taxpayers are already subsidizing a venue (The Linc) that was built specifically for large scales events such as this one, and now the residents of the city are being asked for more. I don't care who's backyard it is in, the concept is BS.

One week to go and there are still "Earlybird" tickets available at all tiers. Is this not selling as well as hoped?

Looks like a prison camp. All that's missing is razor wire at the top of the fences.

I think you missed the point of the article...you got hosed on the stadium. It was a waste of taxpayer money..they said they'd play soccer at the linc and then another stadium was built. They said tthere'd be events but no one wants to play there...its not like this is the only music gig passing up the linc. The reality is it was probably something like the parkway or nothing at all. The linc is just a fantasy haters keep using. Its a benefit because its marketing and hopefully turns a profit for the taxpayers (unlike the linc). So what..they shut streets down all the tine in NYC. Some people just think they're entitled to live near the taxpayer subsidized parkway and cultural institutions and never be inconvenienced
