I thought it was comical that after the President gives Jay-Z that compliment, the following act is filled with vulgar cursing. LOL
My friend's mom (with my friend and his gf) went yesterday and hung till the end. She had a great time but didn't understand why every song at the end had a million N words.

Yeah, "N", "F", "MF'er", and a combo of all of the above.
Classy! Obama and Nutter should be embarassed that this is what they introduced and support.

Well, it certainly wasn't promoted as a family-friendly event, right?

Yeah, how dare they be associated with an event featuring Jay-Z & Kanye West, quite easily two of the most popular recording artists over the last decade. Hip Hop has long gone mainstream.

Jay-Z At Made In America Festival: Obama, Rocky, Kanye & More (PHOTOS)
Obama urged the crowd to vote this fall. He also said Jay-Z's story is "what Made In America means" and added that he enjoys listening to the rapper's music on his iPod
Mitt Romney could have a field day with this!
Show the clip of Obama saying how he enjoys listening to the rappers music on his iPod, then show a clip of the songs he sings with the words "n*ggerzz", F*ckers, MF'ers all bleeped out..
I can hear the commercials now.....
Obama should have just made his promo spot and encouraged people to vote - and leave it at that.

Pretty soon we'll see the late nite comics doing jokes on this... Picture Obama with his iPod in his ears going to a meeting with some Middle eastern/African, etc people.. and pipe in "MF'ers, N*ggerzz, FU....and Obama bobbing his head to the beat. Hillarious!

Anyone that wouldn't vote for Obama because he listens to Jay-Z wouldn't be voting for him anyway.

It's not news that Obama listens to Jay-Z and other rap/hip-hop. However I think it is new for him to publicly praise Jay-Z, an admitted former gangster and drug dealer who glorifies that lifestyle with his music. Wonder if conservative talk radio will be all over it.

ET: Jay-Z is also a misogynist, is he part of the war on women?

The Pres, as well as Mike Huckabee, have stated they're huge Stones fans. The Stones were far more dangerous and controversial than Jay Z will ever be. Infinitely more talented too!

    1. Jay-Z ain't a gangsta rapper. He's a top 40 pop artist. He's mainstream.
    2. Conservative radio, eh? Like I said, anyone that wouldn't vote for Obama because he listens to Jay-Z wouldn't be voting for him anyway.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Some of his most popular songs glorify drug dealing (Roc Boys) and misogyny (99 Problems).

It's not about listening to Jay-Z, it's about praising him as some sort of manifestation of the American dream. This is something that centrists should consider... despite accusing the GOP as waging a war on women and jumping on any soundbite that can be spun to support that idea, Obama happily is taking cash and kind from overtly misogynistic Jay-Z.

Well in that case, I can definitely see your point. I mean, what's next? Is the President going to admit that he's experimented with drugs like pot and coke? Oh, wait...he's already done that!

If this was 1992, you might have a point, but Jay-Z is about as controversial today as Elvis Presley was in 1970, which is to say, not remotely controversial at all.

As for the misogyny, 1. He's already expressed his "regrets" about using the word "bitch" after the birth of his daughter and 2. Let me know when he says anything like "legitmate rape" or when he'll get a vote on the next Supreme Court Justice.

Overtly misogynistic? Now who's doing the jumping and spinning?

He calls women bitches and disrespects them in this lyrics. That is overt to me, no jumping and spinning required.

Not Jay-Z, but Obama recently had two fundraisers hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, who makes a clear distinction between "rape" and "rape-rape" (in case you are wondering what the difference is, she doesn't think drugging and having sex with a non-consenting 13-year old is "rape-rape").

Broadway Musical Sister Act To Host Obama Campaign Fundraiser On June 23

Does Obama feel strongly about respect for women? The company he keeps makes it seem like he does not.

Dude, if you think women aren't going to vote for Obama because of Whoopi Goldberg & Jay-Z, then I don't know what to tell you. Suburban white soccer moms listen to Jay-Z in the car on the way to picking up their kids from practice after watching Whoopi Goldberg on The View.

We're hijacking the thread at this point, let's just agree to disagree and we'll both anxiously await the new Mitt Romney attack ad featuring Obama rocking out to Empire State of Mind.

I don't know about all that...
I just think that President Obama just associated himself in a positive light with a rapper whose lyrics can be viewed as vulger and offensive. Some would Jay-Z's repeated use of the "N" word is insulting to his race and history.

I'm still picturing Obama with his iPod in and jammin away! Priceless!

I must say Gary Clark Jr was most impressive. Should have been on the Main Stage.

This event is turning out wonderfully. So many taleanted acts outside my genre that I have been exposed to and enjoyed. Janelle Monae was awesome and Mike Snow group impressed me. Jay Z? Ive never heard or seen him perform before last night. They were outstanding.

The crowd + city looks fabulous on the Live Stream from YouTube.

Will be interesting to see wghat happens next year? Will they have another one of these? Will it in Philly or somewhere else.
