Default Cars stolen via tow truck

Per the parents list, it seems a couple of cars were stolen last night. The perps evidently used a tow truck.

It feels awful to wake up to a broken window, stolen car is even worse.

So i'll ask again, is crime getting worse or do I just hear about it more? I know, I know....I just hear about it more.

But large scale suckyness (suckieness?) seems to be a twice a month deal in the area.

Someone talk me off the ledge.

I assume you have reported this. At the recent Police neighborhood meeting the officer spoke about car thefts in the 28th & Poplar St area.

It was on 20th between Parrish and Poplar, I believe. So, no, Fairmount is not getting any worse.

That is a fantastic point. That half block really changes things.

Well, uh, it does. You know the neighborhood has its borders. Corinthian is one of them.

I'd choose driving around from 630 - 9PM looking for a spot to open up over parking on 20th near Poplar. That is a fact.

After this was posted on the parents list there were a handful of responses of other who have had car stolen over the years, many in the formally defined neighborhood. Could take that to mean a variety of things.

I think a car stolen in that close proximity (less than a full block) is relevant to crime and QoL in Fairmount. Perhaps more to those in the eastern half of the neighborhood?
Add in other threads regarding crime issues (car seat thread), other strings of break ins, and that this thread sits in a Fairmount, Francisville, spring garden....makes it seem relevant.

Do you honestly feel that the location of this event being on 20th street some how excludes it from impacting the fairmount area? Presumably people in Fairmount park outside of the neighborhood boundary (Say the Eastern Side of Corinthian, south of fairmount ave).

Seriously, is this the typical view? Not trying to stir the pot right now, but is the view held by the great many?

I think the location is important to "theft by tow truck". I'm sure tow truck theft rings target all areas of the city, but it would be tough to steal a car with a tow truck in the middle of fairmount. The cars are packed in too tight, and I think windows and doors would open when people hear the roar of a diesel engine at 3am. Where this car was taken, the parking isn't as tight, and if it was along poplar, there aren't many people to notice.

I don't know. The important thing here is to know that a tow truck in the middle of the night is up to no good, potentially.

I honestly do think this is the view held by many. I am not trolling.

Obviously, there is crime in the neighborhood. That's what happens when you're 4 blocks from North Philly.

But there have been countless threads on this topic. Crime in Fairmount is no worse than crime in comparable neighborhoods (Northern Liberties, Queen Village, SWCC, etc.).
