seems like PECO employees need to take the "tree tenders" classes.

    this one.

I think the fenced lot is the front yard for the day care so that one can appreciate the magnificence of the architecture.

Yes. It's apparently going to slow the project down considerably.

What are they being picketed for? While I haven't seen any artist renderings of the final product, it seems some new construction will help the neighborhood improve.

I assume non-union laborers were being used. They're now working on one of the two new buildings rather than both simultaneously with a smaller crew.

The buildings are supposed to closely resemble the rest of the buildings on the block, but I never saw the renderings. The restoration work on the two PHA houses also appears to have slowed down, probably again due to missing laborers.

I would agree - if in fact they were to be really good designs. Builder's houses are rarely good design and I think something that blends in, but is mundane, is better than something that stands out but is ugly. But I haven't seen the plans.

There has been little infill, if any, in SG that is above average in design, sadly.

I'm guess 16th & fairmount will look like the new building on the 1600 block of fairmount

are you talking about the one they're just finishing up that mimics the style of the adjacent rowhomes? The peaked roof, next to the vacant lot.

I'd have preferred the onion flats version over the phoney townhouses. At this location, with no adjacent buildings to overpower, something interesting and lively could have been done.

I would have liked something in between. the onion flats was a bit over the top and the vineyard was a questionable idea. and the clincher of course, they had no money to finance the project. I'd prefer if hankin at least put in some decorative work. I wouldn't mind some modern townhomes in francisville but the onion flats was 100% condos. hankin is also including a cafe which I think will be nice next to the park.

Actually you were quoting thoth, not me. I haven't sen the buildings at 16th & Fairmount. I agree the vineyard wasn't useful, though I liked the idea. Thank God Hankin has the financing. That's great.

    A cafe? Sounds excellent.

I don't know why the CDC building isn't done - who knows if they've run out of cash or it's just a normal construction delay?

I heard second hand that the project at 16th & Fairmount was approved for townhouses with condos.
sweet. I guess the CDC should have just leased space instead of building their own place. completely unnecessary I'd say.
