It's about time. If I get home today and there's still mounds of trash on my block I am going to go ape $h!t on 311 tomorrow.
Yep, trash is still there. I'm guessing since my block's pickup is Wednesday they just decided to skip us for two weeks and go back on the regular schedule rather than fit us in after the snow somehow. Bull$h!t in my opinion, and just plain stupid.
Mine actually got picked up yesterday, and they miraculously did not spill recycling that was out in paper bags all over the place (or if they did they picked it up). Now lets see how long it takes to get back to our normal schedule.
Got home from work today and STILL NO TRASH PICKUP. And my normal day is today! This is ridiculous...and from reading the rest of PB it sounds like several other areas of the city are having the same issue. What gives? Is the Streets department seriously using the snow as an excuse to not do their jobs? Calling 311 does zero good...f*cking worthless services.

Trash trucks went up 22nd street last Friday, but the last time they passed by Parrish Street was Feb. 3. We are now approaching four weeks with no trash or recycling on my street.

Find out who your councilperson is and drowned them with complaints, be specific.
The message on 311 says they had to repurpose the garbage trucks for snow removal, so there will be no trash pickup thursday or friday, and if your normal day was wednesday, trash will be picked up saturday. This all sounds oddly familiar.
That's really awesome. Our trash day was yesterday (Wednesday) and it wasn't picked up. So now everyone's trash will get burried in 10 inches of snow. I would've taken it back inside if it wasn't soaked from the overnight precipitation. Now I don't know what to do with it. I threw out all sorts of stuff from the freezer that is not going to smell pretty if I let it sit for another week! I figured there was no reason they WOULDN'T pick up the trash on a day that had no snow, rain or freezing temperatures.

Just called Councilman Clarke's office. The staffer that answered the phone was extremely polite and in complete agreement that no trash pickup for 3 weeks was not acceptable and he would contact the Streets Department to follow up. That said, I'm sure the folks who answer the phone there are trained to be a bit nicer and more "politically-inclined" when on the phone than the ones who do customer service for the Streets dept or 311. So who knows if it will help or not (crossing my fingers).
They started to pick up trash on Wednesday, but they must have been told to stop midway. They didn't get my street (Brown), but they got the two side streets that cross my block.
Why did they not pick up on Wednesday? Were they getting prepared for the storm? It didn't start snowing until Thursday. Our trash is buried in snow.
Incompetence? Laziness? Combination of both? Just business as usual in Filthadelphia I guess.
Honestly i don't often complain about city life, save for the occasional annoyance around the homeless problem in Logan Square. You take the good with the bad. But this sh!t with no trash pickup in over 3 weeks is ridiculous.
Holy Cow - first trash and recycling truck in 24 days just went up Parrish Street.

Just following up on this thread...my trash was picked up on Saturday, but they did not take all of it. Any bag that was torn open even a little bit was left (this was the case up and down my block). I understand that policy normally, but after they did not pick up my bags for 3+ weeks, the least they could do was to make an attempt to take any bag that wasn't a complete disaster.
I guess it's yet again another instance of just sighing and saying "oh well that's life in the city". All because of laziness and incompetence from the Streets department. But it shouldn't have to be this way if SOMEBODY in the Mayor's office or City Council would hold city departments accountable 100% of the time. Pipe dream, I know.
The one side benefit was that I got to talk to a few neighbors that I had not met yet that were out cleaning up the same mess in front of their houses. Misery loves company!
In our case, they picked up the loose trash bags that we left out, but not the trash can itself, which was completely full after 3 weeks of no trash pickup. I would love to hear an explanation for that.
Is it illegal to take drop your trash off at City Hall?
There's actually at least 2 trash drop off locations in the city open during the day (and Saturday). One at Umbria and domino lane in manayunk/roxborough, and one in port Richmond. There's probably others as well. Just don't pull in with a uhaul. Trust me on that one. Info at Phila.gov.
