Hi all,

new to this section of the forum. I am looking to move to the passyunk Sq. area and found an awesome home at 5th & Carpenter. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences living at this cross-street. These houses surround the PHA homes between 4th &5th.

I personally have no issues with the area. I noticed young professional and college students living in the houses surrounding the PHA homes but wanted to share YOUR opinions with one of my roomates who is somewhat unfamiliar with Phila neighborhoods and the "block to block" scenario in our city.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

and parking it in front of his house... lol..
He has a friend thats trying to sell him a dirtbike for 500$.. I am not really nosy, he just talks reallly loud. I know it must be a stolen bike, cause they just dont cost $500.
So what is my plan of action?
Wait till he buys it, then call 311? 911? mayors office?
If he is parking it out front of his house, I assume that means the city can confiscate it. If he parks it in the back I guess I would need to call in a tip about my neighbor recieving stolen property...

this neighbor is a pillhead/crackhead/druggy.. moved into a low rent house on the end of our block a year ago. they scream at their kids all day and night, and the kids are straight creepers... walking up to you, not saying anything ans staring at you.. they are often out of the house for extended periods with no supervision.. a 9 and a4 year old girls...

I am just about ready to call DHS on them too.
what can I do to help stop this situation before it starts? I am worried about vandalism or other retaliation towards all the neighbors, cause we are all sick of them since the first day they moved in.

According to the article, once building permits are approved construction will begin in less than 30 days and will take about a year to complete.

It sounds like they'll be a lot of parking, including a surface lot as well as indoor parking. Here's to hoping that's only temporary and that they'll convert the suface lot into something more useful once the demand is present.

Looking at records, it doesn't look like there were any permits pulled for this work, nor has the owner changed hands. Same old drama of people getting stabbed here at 3am, or is this a sign for the better?

Was at the SBSNA meeting last night, and this Daily News article does a fair job of describing it: CHOP to bring new health, rec center to South Philly.

Plans are very tentative right now, but three stories for most of the footprint, and then one or two in the back. Around 60,000 square feet and 55 parking spaces (not underground). All of the building costs covered by CHOP (the city would only need to outfit there spaces). Pretty amazing stuff.

Bill has been introduced to change the zoning of the block to CMX-3, and the goal is to have everything done by Nutter's last day of office.
