On Thursday, May 23rd at 3pm, the Friends of Mifflin School will be holding a “Rally for Public Education” at the Thomas Mifflin School in the East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia. The rally, which will include parents, students, educators, and community members, will call on elected officials and policy makers in Philadelphia and Harrisburg to fund the School District at the requested levels.

We have said-sign on our block, but the opposite corner does not (all one-way narrow streets) and last week I was unable to make the turn because a car was parked up to the corner. The street in question is Cresson, which runs parallel to the train tracks and has a stone wall running along side it. With a car parked up to the corner, you will either hit that car, or the wall. I hit the parked car (whoops :eekfacepalm:) and took responsibility for the claim, etc., but in order to avoid anyone else having to deal with this I think there needs to be a sign, or the curb painted yellow. I live on one of the one-way rowhouse blocks in East Falls, and there is a limit on how much parking is available on the street. One side of the street has parking in the back, and my side does not. One of our neighbors, who has lived in the neighborhood for a LONG time, parked his van on the street in front of our house back in November/December of 2012 and has not moved the dang thing since. He has, by the way, another car that he drives regularly. I asked him back in February if something was wrong with his van, and he said he had to "trade it in." I asked again in March if it might be possible to move the van up the street (some portions of the street don't have houses facing out), and he said he would but never did. Am I being selfish for wanting his dang van to move? It has been about six months!
