    Default Delaware River Day 2011

I'm gonna be here from noon to five or so, manning a booth:

    Penn's Landing Events
Philadelphia Navy Week celebration 2011, gives area residents an opportunity to meet some of the Navy’s Sailors and learn about the Navy’s critical mission and its broad-ranging capabilities and what a better place to accomplish this than along the Delaware River at Penn’s Landing for Delaware River Day. Featuring a visit from a Navy frigate, the rock and roll sounds of the US Navy Band, Cruisers (landside) and special Navy related recruitment activities and giveaways, Delaware River Day will be held on Saturday, May 22nd from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is the perfect way to kick off the summer season!

Delaware River day takes place during National Safe Boating Week, May 21-27, when traditionally hundreds of boaters in the Philadelphia region put their vessels in the water. Produced by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, Delaware River Day encourages conscientious boating practices, stresses the importance of marine safety measures and encourages waterway preservation along the Delaware River. Delaware River Day takes place at the Penn's Landing Marina located directly behind the Independence Seaport Museum on Columbus Blvd. at Walnut Street.

Delaware River Day is a FREE event with fun and interactive activities such as life jacket fitting, musical entertainment, free face painting for the kids and vessel tours. There will also be a visit from Coastie, the Coast Guard Auxiliary’s National Ambassador for Boating and Water Safety. -

United States Coast Guard Auxiliary's "Coastie, the Safety Boat" is a Youth Education, Boating, and Water Safety Program. Coastie is an animated robotic cartoon character in appearance, and is very mobile. He has navigation and searchlights, a rotating beacon, a siren, an air horn, and eyes and eyelids that move meaningfully. Coastie also has his own built in squirt gun that the kids just love. Statistics from all over the country show that tragically, hundreds of children, who could have been saved, drown each year in water related accidents! Coastie’s goal is to save lives through this interactive educational program. For more information on Coastie, visit Coastie - United States Coast Guard Auxiliary

Delaware River Day includes participating maritime organizations from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware and is the only event of its kind in the area this season. Some of the exciting activities include a

Along with $5 admission all day to the Independence Seaport Museum, Delaware River Day, the PA Environmental Council will provide literature on kayaking and swan boats. The Sea Scouts of America Ship 484 will participate again this year, while the Maritime Charter Academy and the Camden Shipyard Museum will distribute information.
