FINALLY I can open my mouth!

I had a private meeting with some folks at the Nutter Administration (Abernathy) about the same week as the Thomas Buck factory fire. There's a group of researchers within L&I being funded from private donations which are helping enforce Title 10 and they're also doing property owner research (i.e. finding slumlords).

I held off disseminating this but I knew it was coming.

By the way, the City's 3-1-1 system finally does have Bandit Signs as a complaint category. They are collecting the complaints and will be tracing signs on L&I "off-days" (i.e. when there's bad weather and inspectors can't go out, etc).

Uh "private donations" to L&I? Care to elaborate?

    Default It's About Time!

All I can say is it's about time! I've pulled down almost 2,000 of these signs since the middle of July of last year. I hope scumbag Slafman and Len Trexler are at the top of the city's hit list for these cruddy bandit signs!

Great news. The part of the above-cited news story that warms my heart is: "Brian Abernathy, chief of staff for the managing director, says the Streets Department sent out 20 citations this week, and more are on the way. 'Over the next several weeks, we expect citations and warnings to be issued to hold these folks accountable and to make sure that the issue is addressed long-term,' he said."

    Love it.

And thanks for your tireless efforts, AS!

PECO and Verizon are providing funding because they want to help clear THEIR poles (in the City's right of way). The presence of a lot of coroplast slows down jobs that require scaling the pole.

Abernathy says offenders could be fined $75 per sign
What does he mean: Offenders "could" be fined?
Why isn't it: Offenders WILL be fined?

This is good news! Last week I saw a guy stapling "Junk Car" flyers to utility poles along Bridge Street just east of Walgreens. It was the middle of the afternoon, around 2 o'clock or so. I was in my car so I stopped to let him know the bandit signs were illegal. Other than chuckling, he totally ignored me and continued to staple them to the utility poles several flyers to a pole) all along Bridge Street. The poles already had "Junk Car" flyers of a different color with different phone numbers already stapled to them. What a mess!

What about the park benches? Are they considered bandit signs, too?

Heard this story on NPR this morning. They said that some offenders could be given a "warning", rather than the $75 fine. Arrrggghhh...

So what's the verdict? They're targeting my Point Breeze neighborhood now. Do I tear down, or report and seethe every time I see one? Also, why the hell do we have to wait for L&I. The police drive down Federal Street every day. Let them write tickets to phone numbers and have L&I figure out who's who later.

Philly makes an art form out of giving warnings to people that deserve immediate fines.
