Default the most accessible people park? I think not.

Franklin Square is surrounded by ribbons of fast moving streets with nowhere to park. They have removed all street parking that was there. In order to go to this park with your family, you have to park your car 3 blocks away. I think the removal of perimeter street parking makes it look lonely. Street parking brings the people closer to the park. I'm all for walking to parks, but this place is just poorly planned. So silly. You can't just pop in for a burger now.

I'm all for walking to parks too, but you pretty much have to run to this one while dodging traffic.

That's the prize for opting to save the back 50 feet of the park and put all the 676 traffic on local roads instead of building a proper ramp for the Vine.

YEs I hadn't visited Franklin Square since the renovation and found the same thing - while I'd driven by and seen parking - now it's all been removed. Madness.

Only "easy" way to get there in my opinion is via Chinatown Station.

Funny. I walk there all the time.

Of course I killed my car -- and my television -- nearly ten years ago, now. Still don't miss either... or mind crossing the street to get to Franklin Square Park. Not sure what the big deal is here.

The entire city has declared war on parking spaces. If you have kids forget about going to half the places in the city anymore. It seems like empty nested hipsters have taken over the parking, traffic, and access policies.

It's really a shame what the PPA did at Franklyn, great park but not worth the hassle (and Frogger) of trying to get there.

Yes all part of the Bicycle Coalition's plan to ultimately remove all automobiles from the city.

Yay! More space for my family.

Hopefully they are working on removing parking near Smith Memorial Playground as I type.

Text book special interest. I love the insane traffic on South St and pine for the two people that use the bike lanes.

first of all, i think you mean spruce st and not south and second of all you must be joking or maybe you're only out there at 4 in the morning...those bike lanes are packed during rush hour - as are the ones on 10th and 11th.

It would be nice if the park were located on calmer streets, and closer to other stores/restaurants/amenities, but really it's no problem at all to get there. There are well-marked crosswalks and signals. The nearby daycares bring entire herds of little kids over there on a regular basis, so it can't be that scary.

Besides, if there were parking spaces, how would the park authorities limit them to park users? Otherwise wouldn't the spaces just become more commuter parking? I'll hazard a guess that the spaces were under-utilized before the renovation because the park was essentially a homeless encampment.

For those of us coming from out of town it is more of a hassle now. We're in the city many weeks in the Spring for our kids track meets and now in the Fall for Cross Country meets. We used to just park right there and grab a bite to eat, let the kids play a bit or whatever. It's something they would look forward to after their meet. Now we just go elswhere. It's not like we won't go to FS ever again but now when we do go it's the thing where I drop the family off, go park 2-4 blocks away, and then hoof it by myself back to the park to meet them. Certainly not as convenient as "the old days" but not the end of the world either.

exactly!....being able to pull up, take my girl on the carousel and grab a burger was great...now I have to park 2 blocks away. so stupid. It's just amazing to me the goofballs who plan this city. If this were Paris, they would put kiosks around the park with art vendors and food vendors and allow people to park on the street. This brings people closer to the park and it looks lived in, alive and vibrant when there is foot traffic on the perimeter. The way it is now, it's a superhighway on all 3 sides...it looks so ridiculous. Can I walk there? sure...do I want to hoof my little girl across the speedzones near the constitution center? no thanks. Bummer, because these are the little things that make cities great. Such idiots.

There is no bike lane on 11th St (trolley tracks) and there are bike lanes on South St in Center City coming off the bridge.
