Default CCD State of Center City report

Report: Center City still on the rise

The good news is that CC has further advanced its conquest of South Philly, no longer content to claim territory down to Washington Ave.

And the population in both the core Center City area — “from Vine to Pine” streets — and what the district calls “Extended Center City” area — from Girard Avenue to Tasker — has grown rapidly in the last decade.

Interestingly Pine to Tasker east of Broad is 19147 and west of Broad is 19145. Check out those property values!

as soon as you start paying them like the folks that reside in the CCD's actual jurisdiction. I'm sure they'd be thrilled to annex whatever neighborhood you live in.

Interesting that the largest convention is going to be One Nation Under God, Inc. Apparently a right-wing Christian political advocacy group. Strange.

“The State of Center City celebrates success,” Levy said. “But it also is candid about our need to build civic consensus for those tax changes and strategic infrastructure investments we must make in order for all of Philadelphia to thrive as a competitive and growing employment center, creating opportunities for all our residents”

The report does give a lot to celebrate, but with a City Council that expresses no real support for reducing taxes (and this new bunch is even scarier than the last bunch), I feel like the positive growth is still on shaky ground. I just don't hear any talk at all from Council or the Mayor addressing the issue of actually continuing to grow the city's economy. CC is the only economic engine this city has, and it needs to be taken care of and recognized as such. It seems that our elected officials don't want to publicly acknowledge that CC "carries" a vast part of this place beyond its own borders.

Also, how on earth does Darell Clarke "represent" Center City? Does anyone here think he's going to take this report and run with it?

Nope. Change 19145 to 19146 and you'll be correct.

    Plus, some interactive data maps.

Ah, nuts. Sorry about that. Well, the presentations have been added, at least.

I think the Mayor is trying to deal with fiscal solvency first and foremost. If the city is insolvent, there will be no economic growth. The fear to me is council, who I get the impression feel there is room for tax increases now that the demographics of the city are changing. Clark was on Radio Times saying he wanted taxes to come down, but that we had to wait.

The council districts are ridiculously gerrymandered. The question is whether or not the population growth and resulting demographic changes of CC will result in political change as well.

Where, approximately, do you live? I live in 19146; the northern border is slightly irregular but roughly follows Pine, the southern border is Tasker, and the eastern border is Broad St.
