Default Christmas Village will move to Love Park

The homeless are gonna be pissed; Dilworth will be off limits for construction and Love Park will have 24 hour monitoring when the Village goes up.

I'm interested to see how the 50 booths will be arranged at LP. I assume ithe Village will be at LP for Christmas 2012 as well since the Dilworth project is scheduled for completion in mid 2013?

I hope it continues to do well in it's new location.

The Christmas Village in Philadelphia is an outside Christmas market event at the Love Park in Philadelphia (JFK Plaza at 1500 Arch Street between North 15th and 16th Street). This event takes place from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve (Nov. 24th - Dec. 24th).

I don't think Love Park will be big enough. Why didn't they set it up at the municipal building ?

They would have to remove the game pieces and block the entrance of the building...

I think this is great! A much better spot for it and Love park in winter can use the activity!

The only problem is Love Park is sort of hidden unless you are coming from the Parkway. But with Dillworth under construction, you make do with what you can.

Maybe a large "NON-DENOMINATIONAL WINTER FESTIVAL VILLAGE" sign will attract visitors.

I think BarryG was being snide with that comment. Nothing more.

I like the Village and think it was a great addition to Center City. However, I wish more of a concerted effort would be made to further improve the look of the village from the outside - could the roofs be covered in red/white striped coverings like such markets are in Germany? Could the booths all be consistently decorated in lights?

Center City in general needs more holiday decorations....it used to have more lights up at the holidays, even swags of lights hung across Broad Street and I think Market Street as well. The LED snowflakes don't cut it. Not bright enough.

I hope that they fix the pavers over there....feels very uneven as you are walking around the fountain.

I like where you're going with this. I think the Village is new and working out the kinks. I anticipate a more picturesque incarnation this year. As for our overall decorastions, I think it depends on the neighborhood. Market Street pretends Gimbels is still around. The subtle lighting would be fine if there were private businesses doing their part.
Turn on the Lights at Market East!

It just hit me, so this means the City Hall Christmas tree will be in Love Park?

Still think the municipal building location would have been better. It's raised, easier to access, more open space, more level, less rats.....

Good! The LP tree is MUCH better looking than the mess they usually throw up at City Hall.

I do agree that 50 booths (+ carousel?) will be quite cramped into LP. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

The lights they did on City Hall a few years ago were great. The ones that made it look painted. Too rich for these days of austerity I guess.

Last year they went with recycle decorations, made up of old CDs, as part of the Recycling campaign...

So they decorated the tree with trash?
