    Default Supermarket Construction Question...

According to a previous PhiladelphiaSpeaks post, construction noise (except for emergency repairs) are limited to the hours of 7am and 8pm during the week. It seems like the average start time for digging, back up beeps, and so forth is between 6 and 6:30am when some of us are still trying to sleep. I am sympathetic to trying to get started a little early to avoid working in late afternoon heat, but losing that extra almost-hour of sleep is getting pretty annoying....

Is this worth fussing about or should I leave it alone?

Funny. One of the local TV stations just did a story about the same issue occurring at the new apartments at 20th and Market Streets.

If it's bothering you and other residents of Brewerytown Square, you should complain. On the other hand, the earlier they start, the quicker Bottom Dollar will be built, right???

Perhaps, but I don't think the extra 40-60 minutes per day for a week+ thus far will make that much of a dent - I suspect they're pulling out early to avoid the heat (but can't confirm as I work 9-5). The L&I website state's clearly in contractor FAQ's 7am to 8pm. I just left a VM at EP Guidi, the folks whose sign graces the site.

Has the Brewerytown Square HOA taken a stand on this particular issue, and/or the supermarket in general? I recall at one of the community meetings in the church at 27th and Girard Avenue, someone who said he was the President, seemed very upset by the idea of the supermarket, even threating litigation.

I can't speak on behalf of the HOA, but in a prior post I recapped anecdotally how a few people felt. There was a "vocal minority" against the project but most people that I've spoken to are concerned about the disruption during construction (eg this AM 31st St. between Thompson and Girard was blocked off), the aesthetics of the finished project, and the impact the commercial site has on crime and litter and so on. I was at 2 of the meetings at the church and don't recall any of the official BTS leadership mentioning legal action, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't discussed in a side conversation.

Quick Update: I contacted EP Guidi and they contacted the other subcontractors and so far this week the noisy work has started after 7am, about the time my alarm usually goes off. Thank you!!! (although I heard another neighbor may have contacted the city already about last-week's early starts...)
