That guy looks totally contemptuous of African Americans. His helmet just screams "I only care about myself and my own safety, not that of the community".

Thanks for the pic - If it's still a postal service and the USA flag is below another can't we send it to the postal service????

If it's a post office and a public place, and OK to post signs apparently, the community should post another sign that says - NO RACISTS!!!

Al is only as powerful as the power that is given to him. And quite frankly, he has very little influence or say in this community. All I know is that my block, one composed of residents who have been here for 60 years or 6 months, there is a lot of good stuff happening. I have never had so many great opportunities to befriend good neighbors as I have here. We have candid discussions with one another about the experiences we've had coming from different backgrounds and support one another in the midst of our differences and similarities. If Al wants to stop the camaraderie that exists on my block, I am sure my neighbors would have a few things to say to him. Al doesn't speak for the African-American community in Brewerytown just as Joel Olsteen or Pat Robinson doesn't speak for my faith.

That would make a great poster too.

The usps sign has been removed, now it's just the frame of the old sign. Not sure how recently that happened.

Wonder why it took so long four his response. Does he not spend much time in the hood and didn't notice or has the new poster just been in the planning and development phase for this long?

If this sign is actually motivation enough for Al to catch this "bandit", i'm going to be pissed if he doesn't put up a similar sign and reward when somebody gets shot on 29th street again this 4th of July.

I have to say I'm disappointed that the reward is only $50. I would have thought civil rights violations - especially of an entire community - are worth a lot more money. We may need to contact the US Justice Department to see if they can look into this. After all, there are a LOT of people living in Brewerytown, and if there are mass civil rights violations being perpetrated against this community, this may really be a multi-million case.

Just an FYI, the sign says Civil Rights were violated. It's vandalism if anything. And how does posting a sign that essentially says "we don't want your kind in our neighborhood" favor Civil Rights in any way? If you own your house, no one can make you move. It's 2012. Get out and meet your new neighbors.

You mean Al's civil rights; not anybody who lives in Brewerytown. And Al doesn't even live in B-town. He lives in Wynnefield, he just owns property in B-town.

I kind of like the labelling himself "the community" in the complaint flyer. Does he announce out loud "the community just went #1" when he uses the bathroom?

As long add this sign's not florescent, it's still a slight improvement.

The real community should be pissed at Al for scaring off business. I showed my wife this thread and she's worried about frequenting local business on Girard because she's white. I can't blame her.

To be clear, my point of contention is with Al, not the Black Panthers - new or old. I agree, at the time the original Black Panthers were organized, society was very different and racism and police brutality were widespread, maybe even institutionalized. Again, I don't care about them being here; I'm more concerned that Al is using them to try to aggravate the "gentrifiers", however, from what I've seen, there has been little to no activity by them.

OMG - I hope you're joking. Please tell your wife ALL people are welcome on the Avenue; Al is not to be feared, nor does he have any influence on anyone in this community. As someone said earlier on in the post, it's just fun to riff on him and his antics because he's such as useless, loser joke!

The community does not appreciate you calling him a "useless, loser joke" or making fun of his beer gut either, you apparent devious gentrifier.

On the serious tip, I wouldn't take much stock in it. As Acrtic Splash pointed out, he actually lives by the golf course in Wynnefield so technically he's not even part of the actual "community".

Looks like we traded in the giant neon sign for about 5 "Wanted" posters, posted on a handful of storefronts. So, the Ave. looks just about as trashy as it had before.
