Anyway i thought they were breaking ground yesterday ?
It was the ceremonial ground breaking. The stuff where people get their photos for the press.

Man is this building gonna suck HARD!

Dumb suburban type planning is why its taking so long for more people to move north of Girard.

It's been fun to watch the "strip mining" across the street from my house this week! the buried walls and debris are interesting (although the 7am start is a bit harsh on my sleep).

Yeah that sucks, but technically they are legally allowed to start that early. Lived across from "The Edge" on Temple's campus the entire year it took to get built. Glorious.

I really don't think that's what's stopping people from moving north of Girard.

If you're referring to Brewerytown Square, it has very little impact on Brewerytown. I live in Brewerytown and rarely ever notice Brewerytown Square. It's not on any main street, nor in the center of the neighborhood. It is on a far west parcel, one that I only come across when I take a shortcut to Fairmount Park.

Additionally, the Bottom Dollar will have minimal frontage on Girard, due to the parcel shape and setback for the parking lot. As far as design goes, it's not glamorous, but I can think of few glamorous grocery stores that are. It'll serve its duty to provide groceries to the neighborhood and I'm glad that it'll be another asset to the community.

Just a quick update on Bottom Dollar Foods. They have confirmed they will have a tent at our Brewerytown Spring Festival on Saturday, May 12th, so this will be a great opportunity for the community to come out, meet them, find out what they're all about, get some branded freebies, etc.

I believe the plan was to be open by Thanksgiving, however, that was months ago, so the timetable may have changed.

Their target was mid-November, and from what I've seen, they are right on track. I guess once we see trucks pull up and merchandise unloaded, we'll know it will be a few days after that (not sure how long it takes to stock an entire store from scratch; employee training, rehearsals, etc.).

As of today, the sign on the front of Bottom Dollar reads "2 Days until opening".

There was a line out the door and around the corner to 31/Thompson at 8:15am today... I hope they don't have refridgerator trucks out there running every night like they have for the last few days....
