If you still haven't seen North28 you can stop by tomorrow, Thursday the 24th anytime between 4:30 and 7pm to tour the building, see the model units, and enjoy some cocktails and sushi. Buyers are welcome and so are curious neighbors!
Girard Supply Co. is having a grand opening party tomorrow from 4:40-6:30 PM, 2710 Girard ave. Come check it out. They will have Yards beers to sip on, and some snacks as well!
There are a couple of renovated/under-renovation commercial spaces on Girard just to the east of the TATTOO shop. I believe one has a "for rent" sign in the window and the other still has its construction permits on the window. Anyone know if any tenants have signed on? Or who is renovating them? Or anything interesting about them?
HUGE news for Brewerytown! The former Acme warehouse on 31st between Thompson and Master is finally being redeveloped into apartments and retail! Lofts at Brewerytown Doubling in Size, on a Lot With Some History | NakedPhilly
very exciting!
That is great news... When is the anticipated start/completion date? The article in the link didn't provide any details.
Things seems to have slowed down a bit in the neighborhood in terms of new/planned construction or major, visible renovation projects. Could just be my perception since there have been one or two things (like the completion of the second half of the old Acme warehouse lofts) announced.
Anyone noticing anything around their parts of the hood?
I feel like it'd be a real morale boost if some new construction got going right on Girard Ave proper. There are a few for-sale signs on lots around 27th and Girard. Progress is slow, but it's always nice to have some big, major project to point to.
there's n 28th pretty much finished up. i see lots of renovating all up and down 29th street and a bunch of the side streets. plus the supermarket is moving ahead pretty quick.
We are rehabbing 2 houses on 28th st, a 3rd house on 27th St will be starting shortly, we've got projects on Cambridge Street starting soon, a 10 unit project around 30th & Baltz streets likely starting by the end of the year and more...
Friends of ours are doing a house at 28th and Master, and also something at 28th & Cambridge Streets. The church at 27th & Girard was also recently sold (not to us), and that is earmarked for a residential conversion we believe.
The church's sale is great news. Any idea if it sold to a developer with a track record of actually getting stuff done? Would suck if it just turns into another long term vacant property.
As I said before, it'll be nice to see some construction right on Girard. There are far too many properties that look like renovation began, but now the plywood and other signs of construction look old and broken down.
Those are mostly commercial properties you see being left incomplete. Residential properties don't seem to have a problem renting or selling.
Nice article about the Bailey Street Arts Corridor in Flying Kite Media: Phase One of Bailey Street Arts Corridor starting construction in Brewerytown
My 2 cents on a commercial business that should be added to the "Bailey arts corridor", musician rehearsal practice space.
The article was very informative. I had no idea there was that much of an artists community up here. Assuming they want publicity, this is definitely something that should be promoted more...the creative side of Brewerytown.
By the way, can you give us/me a better idea of where this corridor is? Is it just that block that starts with the Schweiker building, or does it encompass more that that?
Such an awful place...
