This was publicized yesterday on Foobooz. Mike Stollenwerk of Fathom Seafood is opening up a restaurant with an adjacent food store.

Foobooz Philadelphia » Mike Stollenwerk to Brewerytown

    Good news for the 'hood.

You mean Mike Stollenwerk of Little Fish, Fish, and Fathom?

Yes, this is great news for the area. His restaurants are quite good. It's things like this that help push along an area's development.

FooBooz commenters don't seem as uniformly optimistic about this as we are.

I like to think that we know something that they just don't know, or "get."

Okay, MMPartners, since the cover has been blown on the Taney/Girard property, can you provide us with more details like, is it takeout and sitdown, or one or the other, is it low-end, midscale or upscale restaurant, just fish/seafood or other items.

It's Mike Stollenwerk of "Little Fish" fame...so it's probably fish (whatever he was able to buy that day) and microbrews IF it is similar to Fathom seafood. However, ths being Brewerytown, it might have to, as one local business owner once told me, "appeal to both sides of the Avenue." TBD what that will mean here, but everyone likes seafood....right?

    Hey guys,
I saw some questions here and thought maybe I could help. Here's the article I did for the Home News back in March. To answer LatteLover, it's going to be a sit-down, BYOB, seafood place with a side shop solely for takeout.
Let me know if you guys have questions or comments.

Great article. I just wish you hadn't added the question mark to the title!

99% of the time headlines aren't written by the author of an article. frustrating archaic process.

Thanks CityMaps. And, Tommystar (great name) is right, you an thank my editor for the headline.
But, that really is an interesting building and I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like when it's renovated.

There is probably a question mark on the headline because Stollenwerk didn't confirm that he is opening a restaurant in Brewerytown...given that it's just a shell at this point, there is a big question mark on the development at this point. Partnerships often fall through, feet get cold, and money runs out, especially in the food business.

Yup, totally reasonable. Much better than "there's a question mark because nobody in their right mind would ever believe that a fine dining establishment would ever locate in Brewerytown." I might have had a problem with that.

    Cautious optimism is still optimism.
