Default Brownlee, state rep candidate, delinquent on proeprty taxes.

Kernaghan's camp combed through city Revenue Department accounts and court records that show Brownlee and her husband owed $26,036 in property taxes and water bills on six properties, including their own home.

Does this honestly matter? Not being argumentative but really is a question. I see so many properties with so much in back taxes owed with people living in them it's just a joke.

They'll never be seized, they'll never honestly try to collect the money, they'll lose their voters that way.

Right but its pretty reasonable to expect that as a long-time staffer of the last state rep that Brownlee should have been expected to pay her taxes - since she was on the public payroll herself. Now that she's the shoe-in to be the next state rep herself, there is absolutely no excuse.

People whose job it is to pass laws should not behave as if the laws they pass don't effect them.

I would argue just the opposite. People who pass laws, pass them in such a way as to benefit themselves either directly or indirectly. Its "those people" who are the ones who are expected to abide by them.

So you don't think there is any problem with a public employee and a candidate for office not paying taxes?

Well candidate Browlee would seem to possibly agree with you.

"Brownlee, who also faces independent Warren "Fuzzy" Bloom in the Nov. 2 general election, took some heat during the Democratic primary campaign, during which opponents noted her 2002 arrest for forgery after she notarized a deed in a real-estate deal that turned out to be a scam. Brownlee cooperated against the guy running the scam, who went to prison.

Brownlee entered the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program and her criminal record was wiped clear after she stayed out of trouble for six months."

We got one of these flyers about her tax situation from her Republican opponent...I will say it did make me sit up and take some notice.

A candidate that has not paid property taxes in 8 years is not someone I want representing me. My community, schools and safety are impacted negatively every time someone does not pay their taxes. Michelle Brownlee was chief of staff for 35 plus years what example is she showing in terms of responsibility- not someone I want making financial decisions for me. This guy, Jim Kernaghan, has a very compelling argument.

Well your boss wasn't ever the check signer of the Philadelphia Democratic Party, was he? Don't feel bad. The Inquirer says the party doesn't pay but a portion of their proper real estate taxes either.

I'm not saying that I want someone like this as a representative but why isn't she brought to court? Has the city siezed any of the properties? I would bet that the people who voted for her don't know about this, still don't and wouldn't care if they did. She represents an awful lot of people who don't pay their taxes neither.

Raising property taxes instread of aggressively collecting back taxes owed is just the easiest way to get money. If you have money, they can hold you hostage. If you don't and you owe, then what more can they do?

Unless she's tossed out by the democratic party and somehow barred from running it just doesn't matter. At least not yet.

Paying property taxes is for chumps...

If you are conected at all, you get a pass....

    Never go to sheriffs sale....nothing.
Or wait for amnesty, and cut a.deal.

Meanwhile, the regular chumps.foot the bill.

Well Ms. Brownlee was elected. Just another example of idiots blindy voting Democrat.

Even in her campaign posters/flyers her selling point was "Vote Straight Democrat!"

    Thank you, partisan fools.

It was a landslide and I imagine that the end results were probably very similar to the racial mekup of the district as well.

It would be interesting to see if it was a landslide compared to the areas registration advantage though, just for laughs.

The local neighborhood paper now has an article about her stiffing her campaign volunteers out of their $100 election day payday. They should not be surprised.

He claimed it was all a misunderstanding and that he would have the employees paid by Monday, Nov. 22.

"It's just confusion, that's all," he said. "I'm going to take them all on a trip to Atlantic City."
Because the workers didn't get screwed over enough the first time.
