    Default Frank Oliver Retiring?

I heard wind that State Rep Frank Oliver is retiring this year and I was approached to sign a petition for someone in his office to run as his successor. Is there any competition here? I shared with my neighbor I wouldn't sign until I heard more about the candidates.

This is what a heard . He is appointing a lady in his office to take over the rest of his term . It must have been planned that way . Then when the new election rolls around she would already have the title and most likely win .

I called the office about three weeks ago about clean Styles street no one ever got back to me . We need to clean house

Michelle Brownlee is who he is pushing to replace him. People are saying there will be a primary, but we shall see.

Walter Kernaghan, the previous Republican challenger, is running again.

No primary . He is allowed to appoint a replacement if he retires

Not sure if you are being sarcastic but there is always a primary. We have an election but as a ward leader and an office holder with a knack for not keeping track of the local Dem Party's check book, Oliver has a lot of pull to suggest who the party nominates.

But nothing is stopping any resident of the district who is registered Dem from collecting enough signatures to get on the ballot in May.

Its still a democracy if people bother to exercise their rights.

As Sean mentions, I really hope you are joking because this is incorrect on so many levels.

Is Ms Brownlee a distant relative of Councilman Greenlee? I think I went to high school with a Pinklee or Pinkley or something. (mediocre humorous interjection)

If he retire today he can replace his position with anyone he wants . Then ,when his term is up she will have to run for relection . That is not a joke .

Then you don't know what you are talking about. You are 100% wrong.

Nope. That is not how it works.

#1 For state rep elections are every two years and challenger can always sign up to run against the incumbent in the primary. In this instance his preferred replacement is circulating petitions to run precisely in the May primary. Somebody else could as well. Thats the law.

#2 What you may be thinking of is that if an incumbent steps down between the primary and the general, the party not the retiring incumbent picks the candidate. But in this instance his staffer is collecting signatures to run in the primary, as someone already said up thread.

Whether someone gets it together to run a credible challenge is another question but there is no reason to misstate the law.

Does that mean 2 hour parking on the block he lives on can be overturned?

It's the only block I've seen around here with that except for Girard.

Seems like a well done website with reasonable but progressive stands on the issues.

Not sure why your link didn't work.
Chris Rooney for PA House District 195

    Best of luck to you.

Thats probably an informal back-room perk of being an office holder in the local Democratic Party thing. State reps have no say on that officially.

I just don't understand why it couldn't reserved parking in front of HIS house.

I got ticketed once for this. A kid likely took the ticket off my car, never got a notice and now I owe a bunch more than $26.

I would love to drop it off at his door with a note asking him to take care of it.

You don't have to go back and forth, but other readers of the thread need to know your information is wrong.

Yeah, the party appoints to fill ballot vacancies for the general election, not officeholders.

Does Ms. Brownlee have any information online? One of her supporters tried to petition me this week and I want to do a little comparative work before putting my Teddy P on anything formal. You should run on the other side, Adam!
